Long time TiVo user here. One of the reasons I've never "upgraded" to T4 or a new box is because of the transfer limitations. However, we just added an additional TV to the house so I needed something and the Black Friday deal was going on. I have a few questions...

I'm sorry, I'm sure threads like these are annoying but I did search for these and either found nothing or old answers that may not still be true.

1) I'm not sure if this is a "feature" with the hardware or the Hydra UI but anytime I navigate the video with the remote, the screen flashes. Some may like it, I find it rather annoying. The sound and time bar on the screen is enough of a clue for me, I don't need the screen to flash as well. I looked through the options and didn't see anything that would control this and I also googled and couldn't find anything about this, but is there any way to turn this off?

2) The devices on my network don't show up under all the shows anymore. They have their own sections and I found a way to reorder the sections, but is there no way to get all your recordings, apps, and devices in one place anymore?

3) It seems I can stream most things from my Roamio but I can't transfer them, something that was typically only an issue with HBO content in the past. I have a new TiVo with a mostly empty hard drive but I can't reorganize my videos to use that storage. Not ideal.

4) Others videos come up on the screen and have no option to transfer or play. These tend to be things that I have ripped from my Blu-Rays to create a digital copy and transferred over for convenience. Something that was never a problem on my old T3 Roamio. Is there just no way to get them to play on my Edge?

No.

Transfers to TE4 need to be initiated using TiVo Online.

Not sure what you mean by "other videos come up on the screen." In the neighborhood of what you may be talking about, it's my understanding that transfers/streaming from a PC to TE4 is not possible. What options are available to you if you first transfer a video from the PC to your TE3 box?

Thanks for the answers. I'm guessing #1 isn't something people experience?

There are certain movies that I own that I took the time to encode to .mp4 and transfer to one of my existing TiVo boxes. There were no problems on the TE3 boxes. I can make the transfers and also watch them from any of those boxes. The new Edge, they are listed in the other devices available recordings, however when I select them, there is no option to play them.

You might have been happier getting a Tivo Mini. You could have stayed with TE3 and not lose your transfer abilities.

If you're still within the 30 day return period you might consider that.

I thought TiVo mini's didn't have storage? To save $50, I'm not sure if it is worth it.

Now if a TiVo Stream 4K could actually Stream from a TiVo...

As UCLABB said, no storage. But the Mini can play anything on your other Tivo. For $400 you can get a 6TB drive from Weaknees that'll give you 960 hours of HD on a Roameo if you really need more storage.

If you're other Tivo is a Bolt you will probably need to us either add on storage, or replace the internal HDD with a larger external. Many threads around with instructions on how to do this.
