guys,

question. Just bought a dual tuner box, my question is this, is the software on the single the same as the dual tuner ? As I would just like to plug the hard drive into the dual tuner box ?

If the answer is no, whats the easiest way of getting all my saved shows onto my pc so that i can store them, then transfer back to the new drive ?

thanks\

Steven

ps i have my single tivo networked right now so sending shows to my tivo box is a breeze

Don't bother with moving HDs just use your network. All Series 2 boxes make the same kind of file and can be moved around between units with the same Media Access Key (MAK).

The TiVo Desktop can transfer the shows from your current TiVo to your PC. After you get your new TiVo up and running on the network, transfer them to the new TiVo. You have to call for the files from the receiving unit or computer.

If you plan to keep your current TiVo around for a while, you can just do a TiVo to TiVo transfer without using the computer. That is called Multi-Room Viewing or MRV. Both boxes have to be subscribed and networked to do that. If you transfer your subscription to your new box then you must move the files to your PC before you do the subscription transfer.

The TiVo Desktop is a free download from the TiVo website. The current version is 2.5.

You can't swap the physical drives and expect the drives to work. I don't know a drive from at ST will operate in a DT or not, but if they did the content will not swap because would have the do a Cancel and Delete Everything to get functionality. Then you wouldn't have any content--recording, SPs, WLs, etc. This is by design.

Size doesn't make any difference when transferring programs--just so much will fit and it will tell you when it is full.

SPs and WLs won't transfer--you have to manually enter them. You can use pen and paper or a digital camera to take pictures of your screens so you can remember what you have for SPs and WLs.
