I loved the episode tonight. It had heart.

But Lori missed the main LOVE for me tonight!!

Brittany! She had the cup song which was great! She had solo parts in the big finale and she got to dispense the jewel of wisdom at the end of the show.

Oh, I love Britney, too. I actually went back to edit my post, but then I thought that I just love them ALL, and that way lies madness.

I was thinking during her big solo when they were dancing outside that she could really end up being the breakout star here. I mean, Lea Michele will win a couple Tonys on Broadway, but Heather Morris could be a frakking STAR.

I enjoyed the ep, and the fact that they came in 12th and got the tiny trophy.

But I HATED the fact that Shue expected them to write 2 songs in a matter of a few days and expected them to take Nationals. I hated it the other time they did it as well. Just too ludicrous even for Glee.

I wanted to enjoy this finale, but it was really, REALLY weak. From the terribly written opening number about New York (that was an original song, right?) to the fact that Rachel's imminent departure seemed like something that neither she nor Finn had seriously thought of until that very moment, this was an exercise in contrived storytelling with absolutely no narrative direction.

Did I miss the payoff of Quinn's ominous threat? Shuster giving up on his Broadway dream so easily was ridiculous. And was I the only one who had absolutely no recollection of the Filipino girl from Vocal Adrenaline?

Nope. It was a mashup of Madonna's "I Love New York" (from her Confessions on a Dance Floor album) and "New York, New York" (from the musical On The Town.)

The only thing I can think is that it was that she was going to do something to DQ the team... it wasn't very well explained, and they just zipped right by it.

She was in the beginning of the season. The character is Sunshine Corazon, played by Filipino pop star Charise. She was going to go to McKinley and join New Directions, but Rachel felt threatened and made her feel incredibly unwelcome. Eventually the coach of Vocal Adrenaline poached her.

Anyway... the biggest problem with this episode was when they try and cram 10 songs into an episode, there's no room for narrative. You get what seems like 10 lines of dialog before they break into song again. There were plots that might have been interesting to develop further, but they just couldn't because of that.

There was also lots of fluff that should've been edited out. Did we really need to see them check into the hotel room? And we've done the comically bad song the LAST competition, so they probably didn't need to spend two minutes singing about "My Cup."

At the same time, I'd have killed to see them do the entire version of "For Good." I've been listening to the whole version online, and it's really, really good. I also wish that they would've been able to come up with a plot that actually involved the song somehow, instead of just having them perform it (although having them be at the Gershwin was very cool).

Well, since I haven't watched the episode yet, yes. I checked the ones listed in my Now Playing list, and thought there had been 2 aired, and I missed one. I did a Tivo-2 to look to see why it wasn't recorded, scanned through, couldn't find it. Checked the guide to see if there had been a local preemption. Then read the description for "New York" and discovered it had just been a mis-titled thread.

I can listen Lea sing all day but Brittany rocks. I loved the cup song and I could watch her dance all day long. I'm gonna wear our the magnetic particles on my DVR for the Brittney Spear episode.

Aside from the lame mashup and the stupid kiss thing at the performance I liked the whole show. Not clear why the kiss was such a big deal.

Even though they were singing in the Gershwin, I can imaging Kurt & Rachel singing this much in the way Elphaba and Glinda do in "Wicked". Kurt & Rachel are rivals, but they have a special relationship. Each drives the other to be better. The are "For Good" to each other.

Sorry to all you Finnchel fans, Rachel proved what I have been saying all along. Rachel will not give up her dream to be with Finn (and what is Finn going to do in New York?) Finn & Rachel are just as much of High School relationship as Finn & Quinn are/were.

Overall I liked this episode. I didn't think ND songs were as good as the Regional, but they were passable.

But, again, this isn't real life. I'll bet you a dollar, right now, that they are together at the end of the show. Sandy and Danny don't make a lot of sense in Grease, but they are together at the end of the movie. Finn and Rachel will be together at the end of the series.

I wasn't blown away by the episode. Not as much as I thought I would be. There were a couple songs I really loved, but for the most part it was 'meh'. The "cup" song was one fave - just because as a HS student going on a field trip you do find yourself stuck in a hotel room sometimes.

Why was the kiss at the end such a big deal? I thought it sort of fit right into the song.

Agreed. The story felt very disjointed and there were several abrupt cuts that seemed to make no sense. The songs were mostly all well done, but there was nothing that stood out or was inspiring like I would expect from a season finale taking place at Nationals.

+1000000 with Brittany. I still love the whole story how Heather Morris got on the show. She danced live with Beyonce on Single Ladies. She was brought in to teach the cast for that ep. They had her do a few lines and the next thing you know she's a regular and asked NOT to take acting lessons.

I'd agree but that's been the trend for a few months. It feels like they're getting behind during the shooting year and by the end, they're just throwing the shows together. It's still better than 90% of the dreck out there but I'd almost prefer to have fewer shows that worked better. I agree that for a finale and "the nationals", this seemed quite disjointed.

A number of people, including myself, remember seeing somebody mention earlier in the season that the New York finale was either meant to be a 2-hour episode or a two-parter. It's possible that they wrote and recorded an extended episode, only to have to cut it back to one hour for some reason. (If this is the case, I wouldn't be surprised to see a "director's cut" of the episode on the DVD/Blu-Ray set.)

(Prediction: if any of the original songs are nominated for Emmy awards - and I can't think of any other reason Glee would have original songs; after all, there's no Emmy category for 'Outstanding Cover Version of an Existing Song' - then, since Fox will be airing the Emmys this year, they'll talk ATAS into moving the "Music & Lyrics" (i.e. Original Song) category to the broadcast program, and have the cast perform the show's nominated song(s).)

I'll bet the original plan was not to air the finale on the same night as Idol and they thought they'd have the whole night to themselves.

As for original songs, I always figured they were doing it so they could keep all the royalties from both the performance and the songwriting.
