Getting Tivo to match the channels on the TV

1243 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Andy Davies
I've just moved house and had to put a new drive in the Tivo...

When I go through guided setup the Tivo comes up with a different set of channels to the TV and doesn't list most of the channels the TV is tuned into e.g. BBC1 is channel 44 but Tivo doesn't tune anything into 44.

Anyone know how I can fix this issue and make the Tivo and TV match?

How far have you moved? Different postcode? Different provider? Or are you just on about standard 'analogue' TV?
When you say "channels on the TV" do you mean the TV or the set-top box? And is this analogue or digital, Freeview, Sky, cable, or what?

It shouldn't matter at all that TiVo and the telly have the channels as different numbers. TiVo and an STB is a different matter.
It's all analogue, we've moved from a valley with a repeater and only the four main channels, to the Severn Vale (near Stroud) where there's all sorts of analogue signals (most of them crap)

As an example BBC1 on the TV is tuned to C44 but Tivo doens't tune anything to C44 and picks another crap signal for BBC1 (same is true for most of the other channels).

I did try changing the postcode to Cardiff as I think the signal we're getting comes from Wenvoe but had no more success with that, so was going to try a postcode for the Mendips transmitter next.

Any suggestions as to how I can work out which transmitter I'm actually on?

Hi Andy,

Try my Taboo TV calculator.

http://www.kat5.tv/taboo.html

Database might be slightly out of date as I havent updated it for a while but it has the ability to search for transmitters by channel number.

Try selecting all the values that TiVo is using but if that doenst produce a match try just one or two channels at a time. Its possible you are tuned into several different Main transmitters or repeaters

Dont know how you persuade Tivo to change its settings if you have the correct postcode but it could help identify which transmitter you are picking up signals from.

You can manually get tivo to look at frequencies in

messages & setup / My preferences / customise channels / channels you receive

Then just tick 44 etc ?

Much quicker than running guided setup, and hoping tivo will scan correctly (it doesn't always).

If your postcode has changed then you have to re-run Guided Setup with the new postcode
Thanks for the hints/tips - we're working again but not on the clearest set of channels

I think I might drag an aerial man out when I get back from holiday - aerial looks a bit small and the coax looks like it's seen better days.

Wolfbane also seems the think we should be using Ridge Hill but all the local aerials seem to point to Mendip. Think I need to install Ghostview so I can see what Wolfbane thinks is in the way for both transmitters...
On your TiVo go through each channel and see what you actually get.

Should be easy to match then

Tivo just won't tune into c44 which is BBC Wales and has tuned into BBC West instead, which is not quite as clear but passable.

Tivo just doesn't find anything on c44 no matter which postcode I've used.

Aerial needs looking at anyway to sort out our Freeview reception.

It works well enough for now...
