I have just started to use Galleon. I've noticed that java.exe uses quite a bit of RAM (>100MB) and causes CPU spikes frequently (Up to 50%). Once I shutdown the Galleon service java.exe goes away and the system is back to normal. I've added several apps to Galleon to try them out: Weather, ToGo, Music, Music Organizer, Shoutcast, PodCast, iTunes, PlayLists and Internet. Everything works fine other than the RAM/CPU usage.

Specs:
Java RTE - v 1.4.2
Galleon 1.92

3 Tivo series 2 connected via 802.11b

PC where Galleon runs:
Windows XP Sp2 (everything current)
AMD Athlon 64 3400+
1 Gig Corsair XMS 3200 RAM
TiVo server also running

I think Galleon is great but I have it turned off now because I can't tolerate the system performance issues. Has anyone else experienced this or have a solution for it?

I've looked around and have seen others reporting similar issues but I haven't seen causes or solutions being discussed.

I've experienced the java.exe performance hit. Check out how often galleon is set to reload (file -> properties) and also look at the podcasting. When I removed the videocasting I noticed an improvement. The number of Pod/videocasts *may* also impact performance. I would also suggest removing one app at a time to see if that would improve performance.

Are you using the most current version of galleon?

Both the organizer and iTunes app need to sweep your entire collection to import the MP3 tag data into the Galleon database. This is a once-off process that will start when you first install Galleon. This does require more than normal of the CPU. Once the process is complete, subsequent updates are very fast and require very little of the CPU.
