hi all, any ideas why my tivo might be refusing ftp connections? At the weekend someone in the house tripped the mains and turned everything off. I just got back to find that tivoweb works, telnet and bash work, vserver for streaming works, but ftp doesn't want to know any more. Help?

okay more to the point, I don't think it's the tivo any more... I can't connect to any ftp so what's stopping me? Windows firewall? but that's set to allow ftp... weird...

As you've thought of local firewalling. I assume you are not trying this remotely?

Even if connecting locally, are you using a bookmarked external address rather than the local address?

Is the ftp session being refused? Or timing out?

All I can think of a the moment - no doubt more will follow from others soon or one of these might help.

Another thought - did ftp server re-start automatically with the other services? (Really shouldn't have been an afterthought - should have been amongst the first principles I usually adopt to trouble shooting!)

ISTR some VPN software stopping ftp working, do you use VPN by chance?

are you using a specific FTP program that could be corrupt/blocked??

Or are you just typing FTP and the IP at the command prompt.
