Fri Night Lights Season 5 NBC **SPOILERS**

Hi ALL,

I figured I'd start a new thread for those of us who don't have DirecTV and are just starting with Season 5 (and don't want to read the other thread).

WHAT A GREAT SHOW!!!! I've said in past posts that I am so NOT a football fan, but I love this show. The hour goes by so quickly. I'm not the most emotional person around but there were several scenes where I got kind of misty!! Like the scene in the Taylor's home at breakfast where there's a lot of chatter and then the Coach says he's going to miss it!! Great!!!

Also, as I've said before, all of the actors are quite talented, even those in lesser roles. Like the younger (but oldest of the two) brothers of the girl whos father is away opening BBQ franchises (I guess Steve Harris was too expensive for the final season) when he talks to his sister's boy friend. Even that kid did a good job. Certainly not emmy material, but a good solid bit of acting.

Really glad its back. Does anyone know how many episodes there will be?

13, unless NBC really screws something up.
YAY!!!

Finally a thread where I can discuss the last and final season.

Where is Julie going to school? I don't recall them ever saying. Kinda weird considering we know Landry is going to Rice.
thanks for starting this thread
- most definitely one of the best shows on TV.

it's also interesting to see so many of the cast have left and / or grown up and been written off and the show is still amazing...

but i guess Coach Taylor and Tami have always been the heart of the show.

i can't wait to see where they take us this season
Thanks for starting this thread! I did watch it on dvd, but was very happy to see it on my TiVo! I had not SP'd but rather had an alert for any Kyle Chandler shows. Now I can SP it like normal.

I enjoyed the moment in the game when the basketball guy said that he new the other team player from basketball and he knew he could outjump him. And then did it to win the game!
I'd nearly forgotten just how GOOD this show is....man. I clearly remember the day nearly nine years ago that we left our son at college about 300 miles away, and the last scene brought tears to my eyes. This show will be sorely missed...

She's going to UT.

You're welcome!! I avoided the other thread as I really enjoy this show but didn't want to see any spoilers.

One thing I don't get about the basketball guy. Did he even tryout for the football team? I realize that we won't see everything that happens during the episode, but it looked like he was walking to the football team bus and all the other guys were in some kind of uniform but the basketball guy was not. And then when he went on the field he didn't seem to know much about what he was supposed to do.

Anyway, still a great show!!!

ME TOO!
I almost got it on DVD and then saw it was back on NBC last week.

I accepted it as dramatic license. His basketball coach was trying to talk him out of playing football as they were on the bus - so - next thing ya know he's the MVP of the first game. I just went with it :)

Apparently not. Episode two makes that pretty clear.
stupid TWC On Demand posted ep 502 this morning and actually used ep 508! massive spoilers in the "previously on" section at the top of the show. so annoyed. Avoid it if this is how you planned on watching.

I disregarded the stuff I hadn't seen thinking maybe NBC was really chopping things up and filling in during the previews so I watched the whole ep. Now I am pretty pissed.

It's not UT. I got a glimpse of one of the banners on campus. I think it's called Bartelson University. I don't claim to know all of the universities in the state, but I'm assuming it's fictitious.
I'm wondering how the whole Becky/Luke thing is going to play out. It's going to hit the fan when his parents find out he's seeing her again.

My bad. A quick Google search says it's Burleson University.

Right.

My first clue it wasn't UT was when I saw students with "BU" shirts on. Then I saw a sign that said Burleson University.

Maybe they announced she was going to UT at one point, then she changed her mind? I dunno.
When she had a BU shirt on, at first I thought she was going to Baylor (just up the road from UT) but it seems like a made up school. Not sure why. There's plenty of schools in Texas for her to go to...

Do they have to pay some kind of royalties or something to the schools when they use real ones?

Good question.

It's not like ALL the colleges they mention are fake. We even saw Smash go try out at Texas A&M. So, I don't know why Julie has to go to a fake school.
One other thing I thought about is that by using a fake school, they avoid all the inaccuarcies of what buildings are where, what they're called, and possibly having to replicate things (like a library, for instance) to keep from any outcry from alumni, etc. pointing out how many things they got wrong.
When Julie visited the other BU (Boston University) it was most definitely the real deal. All the buildings, student union, and other campus aspects were genuine.
