Frazzled by the region requirements...

As far as I know, it is sold only as a Region 1 player. If there is a way to enable other regions, as there is for some DVD players, I have not heard of it.

There should be a sticker on the back of the Humax indicating the region number.

The other problem you will have is that UK DVD's are PAL format while US TV is NTSC so even if the DVD player can output a signal it's by no means certain that your TV can display it.

Since you admit to being technologically-impaired your best bet is probably to look around for a video conversion service. It can be done on a home computer but it's by no means straight forward.

If you own a PC with a DVD burner, you could buy the box set and make a back-up copy of it using DVDShrink (or an equivalent), which gives you the option to modify/remove region settings. The new DVD should play in your Humax. Not sure about the PAL/NTSC issues, though - I know one of my (not free) burning programs can do the conversion, but I've never tried it on free software like DVDShrink. I'm sure the internets know, though.
If you don't have a PC burner, you could still try ripping the Region 2 DVD to your hard drive, making a TiVo-friendly mpg, and then using TTG to send it to your TiVo. The Humax will not let you burn the transferred recording, but you'll be able to watch it on your TV instead of your computer. This website should be helpful.
