Anyone still watching this show?

I made it about two-thirds of the way through this epsiode, then deleted it and the Season Pass.

What kind of sci-fi adventure show is it where most of the action takes place in Flash Gordon's kitchen?

I'm trying to come up with some kind of Chef Ramsey reference but I got nothing. ;)
A propos of nothing, Flash's voice is driving me crazy. He sounds EXACTLY like somebody else, but I can't place it. It was a TV show, and the character explained stuff a lot...maybe even was the narrator. And every time Flash does exposition, I almost have a (cough) flashback to this other show.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty bad with recognizing voices. Fortunately, I'm SO bad, anybody who's even average at recognizing voices will probably be able to place it. :D
There is bad and then there is Flash Gordon bad.
Hmmm, I don't know about the episode on 8/10, but folks are talking about the 8/11 episode. I wonder if the date on the thread title is wrong?
"`To Frank Stedman, for 15 years of service.' A Timex! A goddamn lousy $22 Timex!"
My bad. I meant to say 8/17 episode.

And I double-checked the calendar before I made the original post. How lame am I?
OK, we just watched it. I would have been perfectly happy to delete the season pass, but the wife thinks it's cute. I suspect that "cute" and "science fiction" don't go well together, which is why I don't like it. I was praying Flash would use the rift blaster and get stranded on Mongo with Dale and Zarkov. At least then it would be a bit more like the original serial.
This show is so bad that I refuse to cancel the season pass. It's perfect for saturday morning viewing. There's nothing else on but other crap, but Flash Gordon is sci fi crap, so it gets an edge. I just hope that whoever is responsible for this show is using an alias.

That would be a start. Seriously, SciFi Channel, I don't watch science fiction to look at Rock Creek Park in D.C.

But even Mongo is boring so far. The long shots of the CGI city look great, but that's about it. It's the anithesis of the 1980 movie, which had style out the wazoo... and not much else, but at least it had that.
it's not so bad...I like it (the pilot in HD made it much better!)...

I really like the hunter-girl...I'm willing to give this a chance to find its legs...
It's a lot better than painkiller jane, which I gave 4 or 5 episodes. I feel obligated to do the same, though it doesn't seem to have as much potential as PKJ did at the time.

Did you fall and hit your head? :p

Painkiller Jane actually gels pretty well compared to this dreck. It's like it's being put on by a group of high school kids trying to imitate the campiness of the characters in the movie. At rare moments, Flash pulls it off with a one-liner, but it often seems like it's just an accident. In this episode, you could see Dr. Zarkov was trying to act like the Zarkov from the movie (and maybe with a touch of Zarkov from Flesh Gordon) but he simply didn't have the capacity to pull it off at all. It wasn't even good B-movie footage.

This episode made Masters of Science Fiction look pretty good. And THAT says a LOT. :)
PKJ gets better? When? I watched the first several episodes, then checked a thread now and again. The most recent thread I read was a flamefest over a clip episode. If flash gordon doesn't have a clip show in its first season, it has already won the contest between best of the worst.
I found it interesting that the leader of a whole frickin' planet has the time to micromanage the plight of a simple ice smuggler.
I didn't think this show could get worse after the pilot. I was unpleasantly surprised. This was absolutely awful.
The problem with this show is that it can't decide if it wants to be an action thriller or a cheesy parody of an action thriller. And the actress that plays Dale is a black hole who sucks the energy out of every scene she's in.

Sorry, let me rephrase... the two problems with this show are those listed above. And the extras can't act worth a damn either. Dammit... the *three* problems with this show, are those three problems I just listed. And a lot of the writing is just pedestrian.

Let me start again. Among the many problems with this show, are that it cannot decide whether it wants to be serious or not, some of the writing is poor (especially the crappy "romantic banter" between Flash and Dale), the actress who plays Dale is very poor (not quite as bad as Lana in Smallville, but along the same lines), and the extras (by which I mean the bit speaking parts, not just the people who stand around in crowd scenes) are hard to watch as well.

But there are some things to like. I kind of like the character of Zarkov -- he reminds me a little of Flounder in Animal House, naive and cowardly yet does the right thing. I like the other female characters -- Ming's daughter and the bounty hunter. Flash and Ming... meh, they don't make me want to watch the show, but they don't make me want to change the channel the way Dale does.

On the second episode -- the B storyline with the ice smuggler was horrible, and it had no connection to the A storyline that I could see. It reminded me of some of the poorer episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, where the A plotline would be some grave threat to the ship which Picard had to handle, and the B storyline would be Riker using the holodeck to play the trombone and teach Data something about being human.

So I'll keep watching, at least until it gets worse, which is certainly possible.

<trumpet blast> NOBODY expects a Bill Reeves' Inquisition! </trumpet blast>

I think its worse than you do. The only actor I think is not doing a very poor job the the Zarkov character. The rest make me want to change the channel, which I did. If the two episodes so far have actively pushed me away from the show, there isn't much hope.

Does anyone have the ratings of the first episodes?
