I'm in the google (Android) eco system. Lately, I have had major issues with my Edge/Spectrum servcies. Guide data always messed up, Streaming apps not working or sometimes working, CableCard issues, no Pay Per View, it's a shame, I've been a Tivo user over 10 years. I need a DVR that just works. Edge specs are good, but the frustration that my wife and I get when the system doesn't work makes keeping it untenable. I've been running a Nvidia Shield Pro in tandem with my Edge for a month. Running them in tandem to make sure I wasn't cancelling out of emotion (anger). I signed up for Youtube TV (live, with all channels). It's been such an amazing experience that I haven't turned on my Edge in over 3 weeks. I HAVENT MISSED my Tivo. What a shame they couldn't get it together for die hard fans. I know that people will point me to the Tivo 4K Streamer, but it's live TV integration, (Sling Only) doesn't have nearly as many channels as Google TV, and the Shield Pro's hardware specs, AI upscaling, app integration, and overall ease of use finally got me to cut the cord, and I haven't looked back. Thanks Tivo for the years of great programming support, but my life has moved on and I need something that just works. Anyone else gone through this rite of passage?

Likely about to usher out our biggest TiVo setup, when I get down to my sister's for the holidays. She's been trialing YouTube TV using Rokus, and it sounds like she's ready to switch.

I did it a year ago. No regrets. Easy to use and a nice savings. Still have the Tivo's for OTA, but rarely use them as there isn't much to dvr at the moment. I have an HD Homerun Quattro and it's easier to just use it on the GTV Chromecast, Tivo Stream 4k or 4k Fire Sticks for live OTA. Saves some data on my Cox data cap.
I've switched between YoutubeTV and Philo. YoutubeTV for the Australian Football League on FS1/FS2 and then turn it off after the season and use Philo and antenna until it returns.

A lot of people are running Channels DVR on their Shield. It works with OTA and Cable using HD HomeRun tuners, and with TV Everywhere including many channels on services like YouTube TV.
I already had an antenna in my attic from a previous "cut the cord" attempt (I bailed on that when FiOS offered me a really great triple-play deal a few years ago). Loved my TiVos with FiOS, but the limited number of streaming apps, the problem of my Bolt often hanging/rebooting when launching Netflix plus the money spent on FiOS for services other than internet was not worth it to me. So...I replaced the attic antenna with one more appropriate for my location to solve reception issues on a couple of channels. I went to an internet-only plan with FiOS. I sold my Bolt, Roamio and Mini Vox and bought two TS4K's. I also ended up buying a new Chromecast w/Google TV because of the Netflix deal - and I use it but prefer the TS4Ks. Thanks to others here on the forums like @Pokemon_Dad , I discovered ChannelsDVR software and purchased a year subscription. It has been, in general, a very good experience. At some point I may end up buying a Shield for my theater room, but for now the Android dongles have been good enough. Plus, even after my few investments in the new setup, I still have a fair amount of money left over from the sale of my TiVos - both had lifetime service.

No ad's per say other than "suggestions". The live TV subscription has commercials on local channels just like any network feed. There is no auto skip or skip the way Tivo (by the way best by far) does it, but the fast forward on dvr recordings is really quick and can be stopped frame by frame.

Yes, YTTV seems to be a largely ad-free experience in the UI for now. They reportedly are having trouble selling ads for the platform which is one of the reasons for the price increases. I suspect it is just a matter of time before there are ads in the guide, etc. just like traditional cable/satellite services.
One of the things I liked about the Shield was the minimal ad experience. Then I saw the new GoogleTV UI and new it was going to go the way of the Amazon Fire UI and be very ad-full. People complain about the AppleTV UI having ads, but I honestly don't see any except within the individual apps, especially Prime Video.
