Read the fine print for the three year extended warranty. The first time you use it your warranty is over.

Yep. Another poster found out the hard way a while back.

Did you find out the hard way too?

The same thing happens at some retailers if the unit is replaced instead of repaired. It's all in the fine print.

This was known about the Premiere warranty when they were first released.

I got extended warranties on all mine since the cost was low and the boxes were new. Plus they were transferable so it helped with the resale value on the three Premieres I sold.
Ext Warranty is still cheaper then the limited warranty outside of the first 90 days to replace the box.

Only parts and labor is covered the first 90 days

I just picked up the Premiere today and still trying to get it running (hour 3 of service updates) and I was wondering about the extended warranty as well.

I typically never get the warranty especially on a $99 box but since I bought the lifetime service I think I would be screwed if my Tivo died since it does not seem I could transfer the lifetime service. At least that is what the fine print says.

Does this seem correct?

Answered my own question. The unit failed out of the box so warranty is necessary.

I hope you meant to say that the extended warranty is not necessary.
My experience, make sure to use the warranty for any problems in the first year instead of the extended warranty. I had a looping box but was after 90 days but by simply being nice with the agent, he provided a replacement under the original warranty preserving my extended warranty.
