The same thing happens at some retailers if the unit is replaced instead of repaired. It's all in the fine print.Read the fine print for the three year extended warranty. The first time you use it your warranty is over.
Answered my own question. The unit failed out of the box so warranty is necessary.I just picked up the Premiere today and still trying to get it running (hour 3 of service updates) and I was wondering about the extended warranty as well.
I typically never get the warranty especially on a $99 box but since I bought the lifetime service I think I would be screwed if my Tivo died since it does not seem I could transfer the lifetime service. At least that is what the fine print says.
