I apologize if my answer is in the FAQ's. I have looked but cannot find it. I have a new Series 3 Tivo and I want to connect it to my home PC rather than the phone line. The problem is that my computer has only a single Ethernet port that I am currently using to connect my PC to my Speedstream modem for DSL access. How can I connect from the Ethernet port on my Tivo unit to my PC? Thanks.

hello rexer99;

sounds like you going to need to install a broadband router. And connect your computer(s) and TiVo to the router, and the router to your DSL modem.

You will probably want to talk with your ISP for help to configure a router to work with your modem.

Then you will need to refresh your DHCP addressing on your PC, and run the network setup on the DVR.

You do not want to hook your Tivo directly up to your PC. You need to get yourself a router. The router will connect to your DSL modem and act as the gateway for your entire network. Most routers have a built-in four port switch, so you can hook both your PC and your Tivo up to it.

You can probably assume it will work "out of the box" with no set up at all. So do what the others have said. Buy a $40 4 port router, plug it in, connect a cable from the WAN port to the speedstream, and then connect a few network cables from your PC and your Tivo. Reboot your PC and if it works, you're done. If it doesn't, just call your cable company and they'll help you out.
