What would cause me to lose all of my ethernet connections on my TiVo boxes all of a sudden? Would this problem be indicative of some type of wiring issue within my house related to the ethernet cables, an issue with my router, an issue related to my ISP/cable provider, or an issue with TiVo?

I don’t typically always have a good strong wi-fi signal so I prefer using Ethernet over wi-fi. I have a mixture of TiVo models - Roamio Pro, Bolts, and Premiers.

Possible the ethernet port in the Tivo stopped working. Few others had that happen.

I did try rebooting both the router and modem. I even tried a second reboot leaving the power off for a longer time. How long is sufficient enough to leave the power off? I have never encountered a problem like this before.

I have a premier, bolt and roamio pro using an ethernet connection, and a premier xl4 and bolt using a wi-fi connection. All worked fine last night. This evening, only the premier xl4 and bolt using wireless connections could communicate with each other. I tried switching the premier xl4 to ethernet and it no longer recognizes an ethernet connection. I switched some of the boxes to now using a wi-fi connection but I am having trouble playing recordings from one box to another because of my wi-fi speed. I still have one box only connected via ethernet and it did a successful service connection at 8:43 this morning, but it no longer shows as being connected via ethernet. So something happened to my ethernet connections during the day today. Could something have caused all of the ethernet ports to go out at the same time? I contacted TiVo support to find out if they had made some type of change that would cause this but they said no. I tried contacting my ISP/cable provider, Charter Spectrum, to find out if they had made a change but the hold time indicated it would be 35 to 45 min to get someone so I hung up.

Anything else I should try to troubleshoot this?

When you switch from ethernet to Wifi, did you forget to change the network setting to Wifi? or vice versa?

Wifi can be a great connection, but interference can cause havoc on devices and if the router's Wireless channel is set to AUTO and not fixed to channel 1, 6, or 11, then interference can slow down performance, even though the signal can be at 100%. Other things that can cause interference is microwaves, wireless landline phones, radios and needs to be at least 3 ft away from the router or devices.

Do you have other devices in your home that use physical wired ethernet, are they ok? Or is the only thing using physical ethernet in your home the Tivos?

Ethernet switches, like anything else, can just completely die. And like most electronic devices, they can also kinda half-die, where they kinda half work. If all your Tivos on wired ethernet have gone south (or gone fatally flaky) at the same time, it's time to start asking what they all have in common, where do all their ethernet cables run to, and is that thing fully functional.

You hit the nail on the head. I ran an ethernet cable directly from my router to one of my tivo boxes and it recognizes the ethernet connection now. I totally forgot about the ethernet switch device as it is hidden behind a closed panel in my electronics closet. I am assuming this is something I can order off of Amazon. Is there anything special about swapping one of these out? Is it basically a "plug-n-play" type of device? If it is complicated to replace I can contact the person that did my electronics wiring to see if he can walk me through it.

you could try site by site elimination use your laptop at each line and see if you can connect and test band speed ect , repeat for each ethernet , then try each spot for wifi and poll your results...sorry seems you found your answer..

Thanks for the reply. I see 2 cables coming out of my router into my electronics closet so I will have to trace where they go. I'm not sure if that means I have 2 ethernet switches behind the panel or not. I could also try moving the 2 cables into the other 2 open slots to see if maybe something just happened to a port on the router. Thanks for the suggestion.
