I have been getting Error# (43-400) when trying to open the pictures on my networked Series 2. The music opens and plays just fine. I have rebooted computer and TiVo.

I did a search on this site and the tivo.com support & there were no results for this "error".

Any ideas?

I've been having the same error come up (43-400) since my TiVo's got the Overlap Protection Software release. I called into Tech support and after a bit of waiting, they told me that they were aware of the problem. They also said it was new and that their engineer's were working on a fix. They could not give me any timeframe however, so I guess we'll just have to wait this one out.

Bummer, cause I use the hell out of the Photo features for parties and such. The music part still works just fine.

Anyone else have a fix or a hint as to when it might be resolved?

Thanks,
Doug

You're right about the overlap protection update!! That's when I noticed it.

This better be patched by Christmas cause I have picture-slideshows I plan on showing the family when they are over!! :(

So that we can track this down, please provide the following:

Your computer's OS
TiVo Desktop Version
1st three digits of your TSN
Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the desktop since receiving this error?

This only came to our attention very recently and there are very few people reporting it (hence the need to bump it just to get a reply to the thread). Since the investigation is in its infancy, there is no ETA to provide at this time.

I'm experiencing this same problem. My information:
OS: Windows ME
TiVo Desktop Version: 1.3
TSN: 540
Un/reinstalled desktop? Yes.

Also, I have tried using three computers (all running Windows ME) as servers, and they all experience this problem. Attempting to view photos on my TiVo will also locked it up on two of my three attempts at accessing photos.

So far it looks like all of these reports are with Desktop 1.3 and SW version 7.2.1. I just duplicated this here at my desk. I actually reported this awhile back because I am using 1.3 at home on a Win ME machine. I'm adding your reports to what I've filed and hope to get engineering on this shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thanks to those of you who signed up just to post the information I've requested! I'll let you know more when I have something to give out.

If anyone is having this issue with a desktop version above 1.3, please feel free to add your info to this thread.

I just realized today that photos didn't work for me either. Music has been working fine. I think it must have went bad after the overlap protection update. (Not great timing since I had the family over for thanksgiving and wanted to show a few pics, but not the end of the world.) I think I had Tivo Desktop 2.0. Not sure now because when I uninstalled it said I had 1.0.0.0 installed and would have to remove, but I know I would have had at least 1.3. Anyway, I uninstalled what I had and installed 2.2 and it works fine now. (Although haven't tested music yet :) I have a series 2 TiVo and Windows XP Pro.

We had the same problem today after the Thanksgiving dinner.
Everyone just crowded around the computer to look at the photos.
I just tried version 2.0 on another Computer and it works, I did not try the music.

System that works with pics:
Your computer's OS: Windows XP w/ SP2
TiVo Desktop Version: 2.0
1st three digits of your TSN: TiVo #2: 240
Uninstalled and reinstalled? Fresh install

We had the same problem while waiting for the Thanksgiving dinner.
No photos, just music - plus we suffered my luddite (though wonderful in all other ways) sister-in-law bemoaning modern technology

I get the problem on both my Tivo boxes

Your computer's OS: Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
TiVo Desktop Version: 1.3
1st three digits of your TSN: TiVo #1: 240, Tivo #2: 275

I have been trying to figure out why my computer was not allowing the TIVO to access my photos. Thanks for posting to let me know that it's not my problem but one related to a TIVO update.

Here's my info:

Op System: Windows 98 SE

Ok, its been a couple of weeks since the overlap update and the discovery of this bug. Does anyone have a status on the fix, or an update on the plan?

Thanks,
Doug

For users with Win98 or WinME, 1.3 is the only desktop option available at this time. For users with 2000 or XP, you should upgrade to 2.2 to fix the situation.

As I said before, I filed this awhile back but didn't have any reports to back me up until this thread appeared and gained steam just before Thanksgiving. I'm doing what I can to get this looked at, but those of you with 98 or ME should not expect a fix to happen overnight.

Any fix would have to be tested and soaked. If the fix is to the desktop app itself, that would be great because we could send it out pretty quickly. If the DVR's SW actually has to take the fix, it would be rolled into the next available SW release some time next year.

I know how annoying this can be to those affected (I'm affected, too) and will make sure this thread is updated as soon as I have any worthwhile information to pass down.

Jerry-
Wouldn't it be as simple as undoing whatever update caused the problem? I'm assuming that the DVR downloaded updated software that contains the bug that appears when interfacing with computers using Win98. Can't the previous DVR software be reissued?

It is actually not that simple. Any SW update has to follow a rigorous checkoff process (following a "soak time") that takes a substantial amount of time and resources. We have to balance a number of other factors in as well before deciding when to release a newer version, keeping in mind that it takes several weeks to roll out. Additionally, unless it is (1) an emergency situation (2) affecting a large portion of customers, we do not perform rollouts during the holiday period.

As with many situations, the fix for this (once completed) will be rolled into the next available SW version to make the most efficient usage of our engineers and rollout mechanism. Unfortunately, we can't justify making a new version of SW just to fix this particular issue and a desktop release for an outdated version of the desktop software would take even longer due to existing higher priorities.
