Episode Titles!

Hey good people!

I am catching up with some shows and am having a hard time with the lack of episode titles. It would be awesome if threads were titled with the episode title (as well as the original air date).

Thank you and happy posting,

What about the season threads. Should those be titled with the episode titles and air dates as well? ;)

*ducks and runs*
I pay very little attention to episode titles myself, and if I do make the effort to start an episode thread, I most likely wouldn't (and historically haven't) bothered with the episode title.

Between getting the name of the show, the OAD (and possibly S##E## information) and the seemingly important "SPOILERS" warning (for those who may not realize that an episode thread might actually have spoilers in it for that episode!), there's not necessarily a lot of room left for episode titles.

If that makes me a bad person, I apologize, but that's why I don't make the effort to specify episode titles.
Personally, I'd rather have episode titles rather than air dates - I do most of my watching OnDemand and they only have titles and Episode numbers.

Uh-uh ... you're in for it now! Prepare for the $#!tstorm another forum member had to endure recently when making a polite request for clarification.

I'm stepping out while I can.

Personally, I will be happy to accommodate your request whenever I create a thread about an episode of a show. :)
There has to be a character length limitations for titles right? I'm always afraid of truncating so would not put the full episode name in the title.
I think this is a reasonable request, especially compared to the "season thread" or the "obscure character reference" requests.

IMHO, if you're going to start a thread about a specific episode, OAD and title should be added. I'm not going to go on a crusade against those that just put the OAD date in, I do believe it is a very curious gesture.

This also differentiates threads better. If a show is popular, the current and previous episode threads may still be getting bumbed to the top of page 1, if a TCF viewer is a few episodes behind they may not see/register the date on the thread, but the episode name will pop out more.

I also agree the whole web viewing throws out OAD, especially since there might be a delay between the dates the show is watchable over the air/wire vs. over the web.

I'm much more interested in never seeing the cryptic abbreviation 'OAD' ever again. I think it's fine to add the date, but those extra three letters aren't needed, since any time there is a date referenced in the title, it's the original air date.

I'm going to pitch a show called 12.

12 consecutive days of some drama going on, each episode will be the date. :D

I can imagine threads like this for example:

22: 1/6/11 8/5/2011
22: 1/6/11 8/5/2011
Don't make me use my angry fist. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

But it still is the most useful information to those of us who don't watch the show with a significant delay - so I wouldn't be fond of dropping it in place of the episode title. Especially since the current threads makes it clear we can have our cake and eat it too.

Torchwood 7/29/2011 (S04E04) "Miracle Day: Escape to LA"

Contains all three bits of handy information, and as a pattern seems perfect to me.

I don't know about everyone else, but when I'm watching a show, I have no idea what the title of the episode is.
I tend to not even have a recollection of an episode title once I've watched it. I find that I relate to the type of thread titles I usually see here (i.e. *Show Name* S04 E01 8/2/11 OAD). That way I know it was last Tuesday's ep of whatever the show was.

The only time I ever relate to an episode title is on the shows that I have to manually record (some of the cable shows I watch are coded wrong so if you set a Season Pass for 'new only' it picks up every single airing so I just gave up deleting and go in ahead of time and pick up the airings I want).

I saw the title when I started watching the episode on my DVR, and my memory of the title is jogged by seeing it listed here.

I agree. I've noticed more threads lately with just <show name><date>, and I have trouble "orienting" myself to which episode it is. Seems weird, even to me, but with a title, it sorta clicks in place.

No no no. You do NOT need to put spoilers in the title. That is a GIVEN. That drives me nuts when people do that. Why wouldn't it have spoilers?

That's the "click in place" I was talking about. We obviously have very highly functioning brains.:D
I don't always know the OAD. I know the episode title from my Tivo screen and I know When *I* recorded it, but that will not necessarily be the OAD (I recently started a Damages thread without a date - I don't remember if I stated the season/episode numbers).
I only figured out what "OAD" meant yesterday. My first thoughts were that it was the Episode Title. Especially when a show like "Breaking Bad" has Episode Titles such as "ABQ" and "I.F.T." and "MAS".
... and the seemingly important "SPOILERS" warning (for those who may not realize that an episode thread might actually have spoilers in it for that episode!)....

You can probably tell from the tone of my original post* that I am in agreement and would be perfectly content to not include the spoilers warning as long as I'm not going to get jumped in the thread by people reading it then complaining that there was no spoiler warning.

* - note for Steveknj, (just to clarify in case this zooms you, because you wouldn't actually be able to google this), in my original post, the pertinent part of which I quoted above, the intent behind what I said was to show my amazement that someone would actually have to see the word "Spoilers" in the thread title to be warned that a thread about an episode of a show would actually contain spoilers. ;)
Always glad to put in the episode title - - if I know or can located. Episode titles show durning the show are sort of a new thing and are not always across the board. I remember M*A*S*H never showed episode titles when it was aired. But they were always given titles.

As long as you don't click on the episode titles, you're all good (no spoilers).

Hope this helps.
