Elite - S3 streaming?

With all the Elite buzz I'm tempted to pick one up. Is there any expectation that streaming will be available to/from an original S3 and the Premiere Elite? If not my decision to buy an Elite will actually mean buying an Elite AND a vanilla Premiere, bummer.

Thanks guys/gals, TC continues to be a great resource for us Tivo junkies.

I doubt it only because they seemed to stop adding features to the s3 a while ago.
Why not an Elite and a Preview - when it becomes available, assuming it does?

At this point I'm assuming it won't become available but if it does that certainly would be an option.
I have my S3 streaming in both directions with the Elite. Transfers are pretty quick & you can start play almost immediately. PS I have hardwired ethernet.

That's not streaming that is transfers. Transfers are only a problem because many cable companies set the CCI flag to prevent transfers. Streaming works around this situation.

You are confusing "Streaming" and "Transferring". Streaming is when the program you are watching on the other TiVo is not transferred to the watching TiVo, you only watch the incoming stream similar to YouTube. The current ability of transferring a show makes a copy of it on the watching TiVo which violates copy protections on certain shows and is disallowed if flagged as such. TTBOMK Series 3 And TiVoHD have never has streaming available and the Premiers only had it mistakenly and temporarily turned on.

This is going to get confusing very quickly. I believe you have MRV or the ability to transfer your content from one device to another working. The new functionality being watched for is streaming - the act of watching the content without physically moving it from one device to the other.

An article I read today referenced this as MRS - or Multi Room Streaming as opposed to MRV - Mutli Room Viewing.

Yeah, transfer should be renamed to "Save to DVR" or something similar. Play should be something like "Watch Now". Otherwise, the terminology is too confusing. In fact, they should find a way to emphasize the streaming option since that is the most convenient for most people.

Actually "transfer", as used by the TiVo Desktop program, has a perfectly valid name which should have been used instead.

That name is copy.

Transfer makes it sound like it's being put on the computer and erased from the TiVo, or being put on the TiVo and erased from the computer, but that's not what happens. Nothing gets erased.

Maybe TiVo was afraid that if they used the word "copy" the MPAA hit squads would be waiting outside their childrens' schools or something.
To be fair, an FTP "get" or "put" doesn't erase the file from the sending machine. IOW, the word "transfer" has been used for this process for a long time.

Part of the problem is that MRS isn't separate from MRV. It is just another way of achieving MRV. Maybe they should be called MRV(C) and MRV(S). Of course then some people would be tempted to deploy a couple of SD(P)s and blow everything out of space.:D

I award you Two Internets for the SD(P) reference. Let us not allow Haven to get their hands on the MRV(S) class...

If the Elite allows streaming to TiVoHD units (e.g. TiVo HD can stream from an Elite), I will buy one within minutes of that feature announcement. :D

At the DBS talk website I have been using SMRV and CMRV to make this distinction. I would usually spell it out on first use. The DirecTV users call their streaming based system MRV too, and I don't think they could handle MRS without loosing it.

It's the Sollies we have have to worry about.
Haven is now an ally.
