Hey all, wanted to check in on the tivo edge and see how how it is doing compared to the bolt.

a lot of reviews early on spoke of bugs. Have those been worked out?

I know te 4 is the only option in the edge. How are the preroll ads? Is that still a thing?

I have a bolt, was thinking of upgrading to a 6 tuner bolt, but thought I would see if the edge offers any benefits over the bolt (other than just being newer).

I don’t have a Bolt, but I switched from a Roamio to an Edge in December. So far I’ve been very happy with it! I opted out of preroll ads, and haven’t seen a single one since. Other than that, the Edge has worked great. The only issue was when the remote that came with it wouldn’t go into RF mode anymore, and TiVo sent me a free Lux remote to replace it (this was less than a month after I got the Edge, and clearly was a problem with the remote and not the box).

I’ve used my brother’s Bolt, and I honestly don’t think you gain much moving to an Edge, if anything. It was a significant upgrade from the Roamio (I don’t have any problem with TE4, so YMMV).

One benefit of the Edge is much better cooling than the Bolt. Bolt's tend to run hot unless an external fan is used.

Are you able to permanently opt out of the preroll ads? Other than pressing Skip? It was annoying at first but we have gotten used to it and just press Skip.

Yes. Just call or open a chat with TiVo and request to opt out of the preroll ads. If they are still giving any pushback, it will be minor so you just need to be insistent and they will opt you out. You will need to request it for each TiVo.
