ECost is selling the Tivo HD for $269.99 with a $200 rebate bringing the total cost to $69.99. The rebate showing is for the Series 3 DVR so I don't think you'd ever see it unless I have misunderstood something and you can file this rebate on the HD.

As you suspect, rebate won't work. TSN on rebate is for 648. THD TSN is 652.

Ecost is well known for misleading 'specials' and very poor customer service when the 'deal' fall through. At least with the Amazon misprice last week the customer could be reasonably assured they would get thier money back if they back out. Not true with ecost. I've managed to be defrauded by them twice (stupid on my part I know). Stay away.

It is the Series3 platform but TiVo doesn't use the words Series 3 to describe the TiVo HD. They have dropped that from the name so it isn't confused with the S3.

It appears that eCost is trying to apply the $200 S3 rebate to the THD. Any buyers will be screwed out of the rebate since they don't qualify for it.

ok well all in all it's not really a scam or ripoff then (well short of the wrong rebate thing) but I'm sure plenty of stores sell it for that price (Amazon is usually on the low end)

If it was like $350 w/ the rebate then yeah.
