Great catch... The $9.95 service is the real steal in the deal, though I thought accounts were grandfathered into the service pricing, not individual units. (I've never paid monthly though, always bought lifetime)
eBay Premiere Purchase
I just called TiVo to transfer a used Premiere TiVo box to my account. The box is a recent replacement under warranty by the eBay seller. Mfg date code is 18-OCT-11. Box in great shape. Paid a little less than $60 delivered to me.
It is grandfathered at the $12.95 price, and with my MSD it goes to $9.95. I bid on several boxes, but the all were bidding up to over $60. I wasn't even aware of the grandfathered service pricing when I bought it.
As my wife says, I fell off the turnip truck at the right time.
This box had just had a buy it now price added to the auction when I did my last search for the night. I jumped right on it.

You still might consider upgrading to lifetime on the box.
