Hello, I had a technician come out the other night that offered to replace my R10 with an updated model. he didn't give me details on which one but I assume it it the DirectTV DVR. Is it worth it or should i stick with the one I already have? Is there improved functionality? Will either of them allow me to download content on a portable player or is this crippled? Thanks in advance. i am thoroughly confused.

Not much you can do with a R10 (unless you are comfortable with a soldering gun) other than swap the hard drive for a larger one.

The zipper is awesome... let's me copy my TV programs from either DTivo unit to my PC as mpeg2 files.

Just a curious question. Do you ever run into any of these transfers where the audio and video is out of sync? I have had that issue a few times in the past. Not all the time by any means, but a few times, making me leary of transferring that way as much as I should.

Yes, I did notice that on my older PC. When I upgraded to a new PC, the sync problem went away.

Can you be a little more specific on that? The PC I seen that happen on before is an Athlon 64 3300 with 1GB memory, and to begin with had a 32mb video card I think. Since, I upgraded and switched to a 128mb video card. Perhaps that had something to do with why I saw it before, but it was not consistent. Most of the time, they looked fine.

Be very careful. Unless you are leasing the R10 already and paying the monthly lease fee, it will most likely change you from owning the R10 to leasing the DTV DVR. That adds 4.99 a month to your bill and usually comes with a 2 year commitment.

I don't think it's a lease fee. The $4.99 would be charged if this was an additional receiver on your account, which is normal whether the receiver is leased or owned. The only real difference in the two is Directv owns the receiver and can ask for it back if you cancel service.

I have to take another look at my bill, but I think my owned GXCEBOT has no fee since it's lifetime service and the bedroom R10 are free of monthly charges. (of course I could be wrong...it's past 3AM and I am still at work, so I'm punchy)

I'll take a look at my bill tomorrow and confirm.

The new PC is a H/P laptop running Win XP Media Center Edition, 2gb ram, 256mb Nividia Geforce 7600 video.

This is the problem right there. A 32 MB Video Card simply does not have the power available. As you said switching to a 128MB Video Card fixed the problem.
