Hi all,
I am a bit impatient for this answer. I looked around a bit and couldn't find the exact instructions for what I was thinking. I had an HR10-250 have a HD failure. I have 2 other working units. Can I just get an "image" from those onto a new drive directly? Most of the instructions I've read show how to make a backup image and then restore. I'd rather just move the image directly onto the new drive.

Thanks,
Dino

Dino,

I did this a while back and it wasn't totally successful. I had 1 hacked unit and one stock and was attempting to copy the hacked HD to the stock unit. The copy worked fine but the newly imaged setup was unstable. The gurus here explained this is normal and that I'd have to do a clear and delete which I did and aftewards it worked fine and has been for many months.

While it would have been nice to get the season passes and recordings it was more important for me to get the hacks as that is a time consuming thing to recreate, at least for me. That part worked great and saved me from doing all that work.

You can easily create a backup image and restore it to another drive. There are lots of tutorials on making copies of a Tivo drive so you may want to look around, starting with Hinsdale's How To and also the Weaknees website for their online tutorial. The hacks are retained when creating a backup image and are transferred to the new drive. If the unit is hacked then the better option is to install and run the 51killer.tcl script instead of performing a Clear & Delete Everything as this will retain any season passes or other settings you have set up on the original drive.
