I have a Series 2 TiVo that is about a year and a half old. It had worked fine until about a month ago. The electricity went out due to a neighborhood outage. When it came back on I rebooted the TiVo. A few days later I noticed that I could only record on one tuner at a time. Also if I tried to record a program and then switched to tuner 2 and then tried to change channels it would tell me that if I changed channels it would stop the recording presently going on, as if I was still on the other tuner.

I tried resetting the channels (I have a cable box and only the channels in the channel list that are marked "box" have a check mark next to them. I checked the cable connected to the TiVo. Any suggestions?

If only the channels that are marked Box have a check mark, then the TiVo can only use one tuner. You have to have channels marked CBL in order to have dual tuner functionality. Did you change something to lose the CBL channels? These should be the channels that you receive with the direct coax connection to TiVo.

Hmmm...ok then here is what happened (I'll re-check all of them tonight when I get home and see if that solves both problems), prior to the electricity going off I was getting two of every channel when I hit the Guide button. So I would have to scan twice as much to see what was on. I assumed something got reset because it never used to do that. So I went into the channel list in settings and un-checked all the CBL channels and now I only saw one of each channel in the guide and thought that was the problem. That evening is when the electriciy went out so, if you are correct then I would never have seen that the other tuner quit working. Having said that, do you know what would have caused the duplication of channels in the guide?

Having both box and cable selected for a channel will show it twice in the guide. You were correct in wanting to remove one, but you want to remove the box version of any duplicate channels.

Some people find it works best to only check the box channels for channels that can only be received by the box. Two analog channels can be recorded simultaneously from the cable connected directly to the Tivo and one analog and one digital channel can be recorded simultaneously from the direct connected cable and the box.
