I just purchased a 40 inch Sony Bravia LCD tv. Currently I have a non HD Dtivo, and I get my High Def channels OTA. The display in high def is unbelievable, but I'm concerned about my standard def. reception. The picture ranges anywhere from good to very bad.It is soft and pixelated at times. The reception is worse than it was with my prior tv (32 inch Non-Hd Sony). I currently connect with S-video. Is there anything I can do about this problem?
Also, when I upgrade to the new Hd-dvr, can I expect better standard def. reception, since I'll be connecting with component video or HDMI. Thanks in advance

Couple things you can do.

First, try going composite instead of S-Video. Believe it or not, sometimes that helps.

Second, try adjusting your set. Turn down sharpness, brightness, etc. Sharpness in particular is bad on SD-resolution programming.

Basically your new TV is just making it easier to see the flaws in the SD stuff. :)

I don't see how it's possible to go to all HD, because some channels don't broadcast in it. I was hoping that by upgrading my box to a hd tivo, that it would help. I'll definetly try the composite video in place of s-video. I'm not a big fan of s video anyway. Thanks

The HD boxes don't magically add information back to the already overcompressed SD signal. Just randomly changing the settings may work but a calibration DVD will help. At least you will have a set of guidlines to follow when making the adjustments.
