My HD Tivo machine recordings are deleting themselves in an odd priority system. I still have software version 3.1.5 since I understand the newer version will muck stuff up.

I do let the TIVO suggestions record as they want. I also have SD recordings that are hanging out with the yellow exclamation point (may be deleted). I have noticed when any of my season passes have new recordings, some of my yellow exclamation point files will delete before my TIVO suggestions. All my other non HD TIVO machines do delete suggestions first and then yellow exclamation programs.

Any thoughts on what I can do ( I did a search but did not find this specific problem). I don't mind having the yellow ! programs, but I want them to delete after all the suggestions delete. I agree with some people that use the suggestions to estimate how much space is left, so I try to use them that way. I also enjoy watching some random show it records just because I might like it. (the surprise element, especially movies). Anyone else get this problem?

Can't say I've ever come across this in all my TiVo years, but are the yellow! shows part of a season pass? If so examine the SP to see what the save number is set at. I lost a bunch of West Wing episodes I was saving for a WW marathon because I didn't change from 5 to Save Until I Delete. In this situation the Yellow ! would go before any of the suggestions.

As to suggestions, after a year and a half my HD TiVo know me so well it's scary. I have unusual tastes and somehow TiVo has me pegged.

Matt L,

You may be right, now that I think of it......the one show that is dropping off may have an episode limit. I forgot to make it save all episodes in the options. That would for sure explain, thanks alot for the reminder.

And that would be the only reason that suggestions would remain while others are deleted. Suggestions are always deleted first when Tivo is trying to find space. Non-suggestions are only deleted if there are no suggestions (no room) or if a new ep pushes the old one out, due to quantity limits (which is not a space issue).

Anybody know how to find out what software version an HR10-250 is running? I've looked for specs all over the web but none of them are specific enough to give the version. Another question: are the USB ports on the back of the HR10-250 USB 2.0 or 1.0?

Thanks much. I've got the bug to start hacking this sucker. Lots to learn first, though.

Yes, it is possible on the HD unit to have some of the oldest yellow bang shows deleted before all suggestions go... This is due to the filesize of HD vs. SD material. If the TiVo figures out it has to delete 10GB to record something, it may delete one large program, and then find it doesn't need to delete two or three smaller (think SD) shows...

I have seen this happen a few times over the years (I have pre-order unit #94!), and also have seen HD movies deleted while 3-4 SD yellow bang shows older than it were still there... Same reason. While it may seem to make more sense to delete everything older, if TiVo doesn't have to delete them, it keeps them - so it's really doing you a favor! :)
