Download from PC to TiVo Premiere

Don't have a Premiere, but don't know if it is any different from series 3 platforms in that regard. As long as the movie, or any vidoe file, is in a form that it(the Tivo unit) can handle, free Tivo Desktop will do the job. Free Tivo Desktop will transfer at least those files that are in the regular mpeg format(and of course Tivo files). Surely(almost) there are a few others it will transfer also, but it should be pretty easy to convert most any movie into regular mpeg.

For the not too sophisticated in computerese, most sure Tivo Desktop plus will be the easiest. For the moderately capable, the free Tivo Desktop will do the jop. Think pytivo is a little more complicated.

I consider myself modestly capable, and can usually figure out how to convert movie files into regular mpeg format(usually, ultimately, involving the free Direct Show Dump program) in the task. Finally, I use free Tivo Desktop to do the transfer from PC to Tivo HD, and Series 2 units.

PyTiVo!

Just got power back on after the tornado of last Wed. Thanks all for your replies! I looked at PyTiVo but could not understand how to d/l it or use it, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, a little help please.

I can't stress enough, you want pyTiVo! pyTiVo makes your PC look like another TiVo on the network and you can copy shows from your PC to the TiVo right from the TiVo.

Start out with the free version of Tivo Desktop and see if that does it for you.

You should set aside a fairly large NTFS partition (FAT32 has a 4GB file size limitation that turns a 2 hour movie into a 1 hour, 55 minute frustration).

(eventually you'll wind up giving the TiVo it's own computer)
