So I know there are a bunch of posts on here regarding this topic and that it has been around for a long time, but I am still trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. I previously had my bolt+ running to my Sonos speakers in my living room and my vox mini in my bedroom running to a vizio sound bar and sub (both on TE3). In both cases, had the tivo connected to the TV via HDMI and the TV optical out connected to the Sonos. Both were set to "Dolby Digital" and both were working fine and had sound effects. I upgraded my TV this weekend to a Samsung QLED. When I set everything up (the same way as before), I noticed that if I have the sound set to "dolby digital" I no longer get the tivo sound effects (I know selecting "PCM only" is the solution, but not a real solution).
I don't understand why it worked on my prior TV or if it even has anything to do with the TV. Why does it work fine through the Vox mini (confirmed). Is there something I am missing?

Rule 7: When video is displayed and it has DD sound track, and the device receiving the audio tells TiVo that DD is ok, there are no sound effects.
Rule 8: When the device connected to the TiVo tells the TiVo it doesn't support DD (true or not), there are sound effects if enabled.
