Two months ago I upgraded my 1999 Series 1 with a brand new Series 3.
I had a very easy cable card installation: the Comcast installer knew (or faked well) what he was doing, the first 2 cards immediately worked.
Apart from (over-) billing issues (now resolved, but it was a real pain) with Comcast, and the quality of the Italian International Channel (compared to Dish where it looks 2x sharp), I've been very pleased with the Series 3... until yesterday when both cable cards were out of service. I had no signal from either tuner (black screen) -- tivo still worked (the recorded show played) but the cablecards were out.

A quick reboot fixed the problem (typical software issue), but no recordings were made all day yesterday.

Is it a common occurrence?

Thanks

I've had one series 3 since the first week they came out and added a second one last spring.

I've seen that once on one box.

So it does happen but I dont think there's any regularity- at least not on my setup.
