I am still a bit confused. My tv's and tivo are receiving analog signals from the cable company. Will I need to purchase new DTV converter boxes for both the TV and the tivo series 2 box when the new rules go into effect? Am I correct that the tuner in the series 2 DT tivo is an analog tuner?

Thanks for your help.

The only TiVos that have internal digital tuners are the Series 3 and the TiVo HD.

As for your TV, we have no idea what type of TV you have. In most (if not all) cases, even TVs that have digital tuners will need cable cards or a cable box to get the full digital cable lineup. (Without cards or a box, the best you can hope for with a digital TV is getting the over-the-air channels your cable system carries, since those aren't scrambled.)

If you want to get only one box and use it on the TiVo, and have that be your only source of digital for the TV, that's up to you. If you want the TV to be able to watch a different digital channel than what the TiVo is getting, you'd need a second one.

I wouldn't advise trying to use two cable boxes (of any kind) in the same room, tho'. They'd likely use the same remote codes and both boxes might respond when any button is pushed on the cable remote.

The rules only effect OTA (over the air) signals, and not signals coming from the cable company. If your cable company choses to continue sending analog signals (as most will probably do) for a while to come, then it will continue to work just fine.

When and if your cable company decides to send the signal through your wire digitally, then you may need some kind of converter box, most notably a digital cable box. This will have to do with their own decision though, and not the new rules.

Since you have cable, you can buy or lease cable boxes, or upgrade to one of the HD TiVos that use Cablecards.

Both tuners in the Series 2 DT are analog, plus it has an input for a (presumably digital) set top box that has A/V out and IR or serial control. One tuner is fixed for analog cable, the other does either analog cable or the STB, as it feels.
