Let's take HBO Max to keep it simple, but it could be Disney+, Hulu, etc.

A person can get a subscription directly from the HBO Max website, or get HBO Max through other stream services such as YoutubeTV, Amazon Prime, xFinity, cellphone carrier, etc.

If I get a subscription to HBO Max through 3rd party re-sellers, it is the same as getting it through the HBO MAX website and therefor have access the HBO Max on all devices that have a HBO Max app?

Or, if I get HBO Max through Prime or YouTubeTV, Am I limited to those platforms to watch HBO Max, and can't use the HBO Max app.

If you subscribe via Roku channels, for example, I believe that you can only access the provider's content via that medium. I do not recall whether Amazon channels have that limitation since I have rarely subscribed that way.

However, one benefit to starting and stopping your subscription via different media sources is that you can frequently obtain free limited-time trial service from each source periodically whereas typically the free trial is only available once to a given subscriber for a certain length of time (usually either six months or one year) before it is again available. IOW, the one-time limitation is not a blanket restriction that applies across the various sources.

Also, in some cases you might get a discounted monthly (or annual rate) from one source or another. Amazon is particularly good at offering these periodical discounts on some of the providers in their channels for as much as three to six months.

Interesting - I believe Roku has an Apple TV app so that if you subscribed through Apple when you use the 'ATV app' on a Roku then the ATV Channels populate and you can select them from that ATV app. My Paramount + and Showtime is with Apple and that's available if I use a Roku that I have. That's an Apple/Roku agreement and I doubt many have similar. You can use Apple credentials with many Content providers. Apple has nearly every 'subscription' available.

In the past I've never been a premium TV, or streaming subscriber but in the past 12 months I've tried very few.

I have HBOMAX through Amazon Prime. I can log in through the regular HBOMAX app by choosing Prime Channels as my TV provider. I prefer this because I can either watch via the regular app or through the Amazon app. The advantage being that through Amazon I can get the live HBO feed where with Max I can only get on demand content.

Apple Channels provides Showtime 'Live' options also, actually I believe East & West feeds.
