It sucks having to wait two weeks for part 2.

This seemed like an old fashioned monster movie. It seemed like an hour of setup for the second episode. Nothing exciting.
I enjoyed the episode and I finally watched a "Doctor Who Confidential" that matched up with this episode. I thought it was enjoyable (it was FREEZING when they shot this, they had hot water bottles under their wardrobe to keep from shivering) but if all the confidential episodes are like that one I don't think I'll watch another. I did get a little sleepy near the end.

It seemed like they were beating me over the head with a sledge hammer trying to get me to understand the replicants (or whatever they were calling them) shared the same memories as the human originals, and in a sense were the same person.
This episode kind of reminded me of the "6th Day" movie where Arnie realizes that he is a clone with the memory of his original. At the end he decides to change his name to his/original's middle name and sets off on his own knowing he and the original can't live the same life with the same family. If only these characters could be so wise..

I didn't quite understand why the two groups seemed to immediately wanted to go to war with each other, besides adding some good action type scenes.

I have REALLY been enjoying this season - UNTIL this episode. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

The worse thing is knowing there is a second part to come.
yikes.
Is it just me, or does this story seem to be a rehash of the last Silurian story?

You know, getting the two sides to the table only to have the diplomacy fall apart because the humans have killed one of the others.

Exactly how I felt. The 'Gangers reminded me of Odo from DS9 when they weren't fully transformed.

And then there's a part 2? And it's not on for two weeks? Ugh.
The scheduling is an American thing. Without a pesky holiday weekend getting in the way, the Brits will have Part 2 on Saturday.

Ah, thank you! There was something bugging me about that look that I couldn't put my finger on.

Another sighting of the eyepatch woman behind the door slat ... something is definitely going on here. Of course, these hints seem a lot more obvious than in past seasons (Bad Wolf, Torchwood, Vote Saxon, etc.).

I liked Rory's line about "welcome to my world" or whatever when the one 'ganger was walking about dying all the time. :)

It's definitely a different approach, isn't it? In prior seasons the clues were laced through the episodes but hard to notice unless you knew, in retrospect, what to look for. Then, in the "big reveal" episode near the end of the series, we'd see a montage of the various moments from those prior episodes. Here, we're being spoon-fed the moments. We just don't know what they mean yet.
I liked this episode, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. But as mentioned before they all do like Odo. My question is does the duplicate version of the Doctor have his memories?

It looks like we know, or may know, whoes body was on the burning boat in episode one

Good theory!

Further thoughts on your spoiler, I thought the same after this episode and ties into something else I noticed (or made up):

When I rewatched the first episode of this season last week I noticed (or am seeing things) that the 1100 year old Doctor's face looked a little different. I thought at the time that it looked a little plasticy and fake. I figured at the time that it was because they were wanting to show a little difference between the Doctors since that one was supposed to be 200 years older than "ours". If that Doctor was from the Flesh that might explain his appearance.
Ooooo!!! This *IS* a good theory!!! Great theory actually!

Soo, if this theory is correct......

..... then is the 1100 yr. old doctor really that old? I mean in real doctor years? Did the real doctor allow "it" to live that long just to send it back to kill it?

If this theory turns out to be true, then this is going to be VERY timey-wimey, isn't it?
There is a pesky holiday weekend in the UK next week but for some reason the UK treats holiday weekends as primetime for TV. Will the US be behind for the remaining eps of this season ? If so I'll have to remember that when I come here :)

I ALWAYS love Doctor Who but this was one of the less interesting episodes. I'm pretty much in agreement with the spoilerized theories above (though I'm not sure they really are spoilers). I think the downside of the themed seasons is that the episodes that are really part of that theme seem irrelevant. The theme was present here though - people who are not completely people and of course Amy saw the sliding window again.

The problem with it though, is that the 1100 year old Doctor had memories with River that the 900 didn't yet. So if he is a Ganger Doctor he would apparently have to exist for the next 200 years as the Doctor and River would believe him to be the real one.

Unless he just got the diary and read up on it.
Speculation /= spoilers...
Yes, but there's no "Speculation" tag. :D
My attitude towards people who don't want to see speculation is that they should avoid the internet.

And, for that matter, all human contact.

But since he didn't frame it as a spoiler, he is consistent.
