I know this 2 parter has been scrutinized by a lot of Who fans but I liked it. The Dalek/Human thing is a little hard to take due to their loathing of every other species but I liked Dalek Sec. I also am growing attached to Martha I think she is a great companion who brings a little bit brainier perspective to the role. Also the "I am a human Dalek" was a great line!

I'd rate it as just "all right". The American accents were painful, and I'm getting tired of seeing the Daleks. I know they're the most popular villian Doctor Who has, but bringing them back year after year is not helping the character.

where these daleks supposed to be the same ones from the end of last season? I wish they would do more off planet shows. whats the point of being able to travel in space and time if you are only ever on earth.

(I know that New New York wasn't on earth but it might as well been)
Budget issues. It takes a lot of money to create an alien planet set.

Yes It is the ones you see disappear at the end of "Doomsday" before the rest of the Daleks & Cybermen are sucked into the vortex.

That's exactly my major criticism of show. The creators are always harping on about budget issues, but personally I'd rather see a return of the bubble wrap monsters of the old series or a bunch of remarkably similar space stations than keep seeing 10 versions of London/Cardiff every year.

I thought the bad American accents were fun to listen to, especially Tallulah's.

The human Dalek's head looked like something you'd see in a sex toy catalog.

No, please. No bad special effects - although similar space stations is fine if they look okay. This new series of Doctor Who has been great, because even when it's cheezy (which I love about Doctor Who), it hasn't looked ridiculous...until these last two episodes. I was all excited because we had some Dalek episodes coming up so I waited to watch the episodes with some friends to try to get them interested in the Doctor - and these turned out not to be the episodes to try that with (apparently the season 1 premiere works, though). I don't know if it was just the special effects (Dalek Sek as the Dalek-Human looked like something out of the original Star Trek) or the way it was shot (some of the camera angles and camera movement reminded me of every other old sci-fi show/movie in existence trying to instill drama where it isn't), but it didn't work for me.

...that is, until the last 1/2 hour. Something in that last bit changed and it was much more new-series Doctor Who than old series. Not sure what it was, but I was really engaged and interested near the end. Sad that Sek had to die...I have a little Dalek Sek on my desk at work, now he has been ex-term-inated :(

On a somewhat random note - I love what David Tennant does with the Doctor character - little things like walking across the tops of the theater seats was subtle but cracked me up.

For me, I enjoyed it because this was a Dalek episode that actually advanced the overall Dalek story arc. For the first time, a Dalek actually considered something new and radical - saving the Daleks by merging with another race. It was radical enough that even the Doctor enlisted his support. And then Dalek Sek got exterminated by the remaining Daleks for doing something different and heretical.

So, cheesy yes, but in terms of story line, I give the writers props for trying something new.

I just caught up on all the S3 Who's over the past week, and I have to say my favorite was "Gridlock", with the cars imprisoned on the underground highway in New New New York. That script was brilliant - something that Terry Gilliam or the late Douglas Adams would have thought up (though the ending was a little bit deus ex machina, a common problem with Who scripts).

I agree with that. I liked the storyline, I just didn't like the direction/special effects.

I really, REALLY hate to ask this, BUT, could this one, lone, final Dalek have been the one that was found in a burning heap on the future earth, that Rose sort of regenerated, and then caused to die, the one that was in the new-show season one episode called "Dalek?" The one being held in that billionaire's alien museum somewhere in Utah.

This is not the last we've seen of the Daleks, I'm sure.

I don't believe so because the Dalek of that episode did not realize it was the last one left. Also it didn't have any apparent memory of the incidents of those episodes. Also according to most Doctor Who news the Daleks & Davros (Dalek Creator) will return for Series 4!

Well, it was an interesting idea. For it to have been true, they would have had to plan this two years in advance.

I agree but the head is going to be coming to many a normal toy shop [store].

It will drive the rest of the family to distraction within minutes of being unwrapped, but a new Dalek mask made of flesh-pink ribbed plastic will be one of the must-have toys this Christmas, retailers predicted yesterday.

The mask, modelled on a one-eyed Dalek-human hybrid which appeared in the episode Daleks in Manhattan, changes the voice of the wearer to the metallic scream of the doctor's mortal enemies. Games based on films and TV characters will fill Santa's sack this year, according to toy manufacturers who made their annual prediction of Christmas best-sellers yesterday. >
