I dont know if that the drive. But you should use winmfs to make a backup of your tivo drive just incase.
I have two TiVoHD units purchased in March, 2008. I replaced the original drives with 1TB WD drives within a couple of months of the original purchase.
One of the units is starting to exhibit some odd behavior. I'm wondering if it is the hard drive. Here are the symptoms:
- Now Playing list often takes a few extra seconds to display
- Some recordings seem to "skip"
- While transferring a show from one TiVo to the other, the receiving TiVo restarted twice while the transfer was in process.
I'd say it seems to work normally about 80% of the time. I've only noticed issues over the last couple of weeks.
Any suggestions for further troubleshooting?
Assuming this is the disk, have the disk replacement process changed since 2008? I used the MFStools from a Linux CD.
Thanks!
John
You might want to pull the hard drive and run the WD diagnostics on it.I have two TiVoHD units purchased in March, 2008. I replaced the original drives with 1TB WD drives within a couple of months of the original purchase.

I'd rather trust the stuff from the company that made the drive.Personally, I would do a Kickstart 54.
Well, Kickstart 54 is relatively easy to do. Especially the quick tests. If they fail, he knows that the drive(s) need to be replaced ASAP.I'd rather trust the stuff from the company that made the drive.
He needs to pull the drive to make an MFS Live or WinMFS backup anyway.
After which, if it passes the manufacturer's most exhaustive non-destructive test, he can run Kickstart 58 and see if that helps.
And he loses all of his recordings and settings, including CableCARD pairing.drop in the original drive and let it update. Then get a 2tb drive and use the comer process to update and install in the tivo. run drive diagnostics from the mfr on the old 1tb and if it is good, clean it and drop it in a pc to serve up your dvds to the tivo.
No. Not if he took the common advice and waited until the cablecard was paired and working before the upgrade. The op waited "a couple of months", so I assume this was the case. And he loses all of his recordings and settings, including CableCARD pairing.
That seems like the next step after running (and passing) the Kickstart 54 SMART tests. You might want to pull the hard drive and run the WD diagnostics on it.
It is one of the older WD drives that worked up through a particular serial number. Is it a Caviar Green? Did you ever run wdidle3 on it?
Weird, my TivoHD is behaving flaky too.. I originally thought it might be the drive, but I replaced the drive and I'm still having probs.. (I also think it might be the power supply, I've had some weird electronics failures lately in my bedroom... including one currently dead S3)I have two TiVoHD units purchased in March, 2008.
