I have a Phillips Series 1 TIVO. Does anyone know if a Western Digital Caviar Blue WD1600AAJB 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 / ATA-6 3.5" Internal Hard Drive will function as a replacement disk? Many thanks - Jerry

Unfortunately, no. There's something about the Caviar Blue line that doesn't play well with a Series 1 although the rest of the WD drives work fine.

There's a big Caviar Blue thread in the Upgrade forum if you want to read more about it.

Yep, the ultra-finicky Series 1s don't like Caviar Blues.

Do you already own that particular drive?

If not, go here

and read, read, read.

You can get a bigger SATA drive and a Marvell chipset based IDE to SATA adapter for about the same money probably.

If you do already own that drive, you can't use it in your TiVo so do what I said anyway.

It's a perfectly good computer drive, however.

Is the original drive in your S1 failing, or do you just want more space?

Is that S1 lifetimed?
