Can a mini be directly connected to a DVR (ethernet) or does it have to be on the network.

Can a mini be directly connected to a DVR (ethernet) or does it have to be on the network.

The Mini has to be on a network, the same network as the DVR, able to phone home ... but can be directly connected via the DVR's Ethernet port to effect the network connection in certain circumstances. (e.g.)
