First, I apologize. I know this information is out there but to be honest I have information overload at this point. Here is what I have:

Currently:

HR10-250
2x Satellite straight runs from dish
1x Antenna straight run from attic mount

My problem is I am getting a HR20 tomorrow that I want to add into this scenario. I am in a very old house and it has crossbeams in the walls. I currently can't run any more cable through the opening I have.

I've heard that MPEG4 can't be added onto a wire with antenna so how would I do this? Can I split 2 sat cables into 4 and then keep the antenna separate?

Keep in mind this is just one TV. I want to have both boxes there so the "splitting" would be done right behind the TV and not at the dish.

Thanks!

Yes, you can add a 2x4 multiswitch to the two lines you have now. However, you will lose the ability to receive channels from the 110 and 119 satellites.

For the future, you'll need four lines from the 5LNB dish in order to get the MPEG4 channels, unless the SWM is available by then.

Hummm... ok, let's assume I dedicate two lines to the new MPEG-4 box since I need to get all satellites for that sucker. Is there anyway I can split a single cable into two inputs and a antenna for my HR10-250 which doesn't need the new birds?

Oh, and thanks a lot for your help. It is appreciated!

Thanks for the help Jim. I'm going to try really hard to squeeze a 4th line down then I can use two for the MPEG-4 and two for the dual sat and antenna for the 10-250.

You can diplex OTA onto a line running to a HR20. We've been discussing this over on DBSTalk, and I'm currently doing it. The key is, for the line you're diplexing, move the BBC to before the first diplexer, but just after the multiswitch.
This saved me having to make another cable run to keep my OTA on the HR20. And yes, I get all the new HD channels with this setup.

Can you point us to the thread?
Here is that link:

How To Diplex OTA with the AT9 dish & MPEG-4

But you can still diplex in on a TiVo cable without any special steps because TiVo can't see the new HD channels.

Make sure you choose good diplexers so that you do not reduce the signal more than you have to.

The best diplexer is only a few bucks and beats others that cost many times more.

Now you tell me, I almost killed myself running the line! :)

I probably could have run the line under the house and up through the floor but I am a purist, I like all my wiring coming down through the stud cap to a nice neat box. I run a lot of Cat-6 so I'm pretty used to the wiring part.

I'm familiar with Cat-5 wire. What is Cat-6 used for? Is it twisted pair or coax or something else?
