I recently had Time Warner digital cable installed in my apartment. I want to be able to watch a digital channel and be able to record a digital channel at the same time? Is this possible. I've tried various configurations and the best I've been able to do is watch the non-digital offerings while recording digital. My tivo is able to control my cable box, so there's no issue there.

Can anyone help?

You only have one tuning source for digital cable...your cable box.

Since it can only put out one feed at a time, you can only tune one digital channel at a time. This means you can't record one and watch another. You also likely can't have two set top boxes in the same room, as their remotes would operate both boxes and any channel changes affect both boxes at the same time.

I know it isn't cheap, but getting a Tivo HD or Series 3 with cablecards will give you the ability to record and watch two separate digital feeds at once. You might actually save money per month on 2 cable cards versus a set top box, but check with your cable company (and your wallet) to see if such a setup is possible.
