Dexter - "Get Gellar" - OAD 11/27/11

So now we know. Should be interesting to see how the story advances from here now that Dexter knows that Travis is acting alone and that his Dark Passenger is dead.

It will also be interesting to hear the reaction of those spouses, etc. that were not aware of the "is he real or not" discussion on here.

That was a disappointing episode. The writers had already done a poor job of keeping the Gellar / Travis thing plausible.

But we are supposed to believe that Travis sabotaged the elevator, ran and killed the professor, carried the 200+ pound bleeding body somewhere that a freakin' blood spatter expert could not track, then ran back and got Dexter out of the elevator, all in a couple minutes? Then, of course, went back at night, got the body, hollowed it out, took it to the lecture hall, and rigged a blood shower. I could buy the second part, but the first part is just too ridiculous.

Also, that old church still has electricity to run a freezer? If Travis was paying the electricity bill, then the police should have found the church instantly after they found his sister.

Kind of a meh episode, but one thing I found amusing was the building directory of Prof. Victim. One of the names on it was "Bueller, F." I'm sure there are more jokes on it but that's the one that popped out at me.

Yeah, so the big reveal was kind of spoiled for me by the speculation here. Dunno if I'd have figured it out by myself before then or not.

The "hacking" in this episode was silly in the opposite direction from what I complained about previously, making a big production out of tracking down an IP address.

Another thing that bugged me: they presented the creationist "argument" based on the second law of thermodynamics, but had Dexter's internal monologue play over the rebuttal, so we couldn't hear it. For reference, though, it's quite simple: The Earth is not a closed system. Taking the Earth and Sun together as a system, the total entropy of that system is in fact increasing (i.e., the Sun is running down). Indeed, from our perspective, the Sun "wastes" the vast majority of its energy radiating it away into empty space, never hitting Earth or any other world, except perhaps to appear as a point of light in some alien constellation.

Masukas computer wiz intern has the hand from the Ice Truck killer case that was auctioned on the internet (in a display case in the apartment).

Question is, did he get it back from the original buyer or was he the original buy in the first place?

The fact that he said "Internet Protocol" instead of "IP" jarred me a little. Geeks say "IP."

So, what do we make of the fact that he has the arm from the Ice Truck Killer case in his apartment?

Who did Dexter see in the church in the previous episode when we heard his inner dialogue that was something like, "now Gellar has seen me....that's going to make my job more difficult...."? WTF?

Dexter didn't see anyone. They showed Geller in the rafters, but the implication was that it was Travis' view we were seeing and that Dexter never actually saw him

Dexter specifically mentions being spotted by Gellar and we saw him from Dexter's POV in the triforium. I don't think we're talking about the same thing.

Obviously not. Travis said Geller was there and Dexter assumed he was seen by Geller.

In that scene, Dexter is talking to Travis about Gellar. Dexter has his back to the balcony in the church. Dexter says something about Gellar (I forget what), and Travis' eyes dart to the balcony. Dexter obviously thought that Travis was looking at Gellar. By the time he turns around, Gellar is gone (or, more accurately, he was never there), but Dexter thinks he's been spotted. That's why he gives chase, but never finds Gellar.

Given that Greene (the intern) has plenty of disposable income and is a little Dexter obsessed , when we saw the arm I figured he was the buyer. That's probably what led him to the intern gig at the lab. The tricky part will be whether he's got a thing for collecting artifacts alone or it ls into other serial killer tendencies. Finding he bought the arm wouldn't be all that dramatic, so I'd guess he'll turn out to be even scarier than that.

The comedy team of Bautista & Quinn gave a brief chuckle this week with the Waffle House waitress. The hot girl / mom bit was good for a smile.

I don't think that's what happened. I think all that had to happen was that Travis rendered the professor immobile and put him into some nearby room or other secure location at that time, then ran to the elevator. His office hours were late and I doubt many others were around. He then went back that night and staged that tableau.

Could be a generator too. But I agree, it is dubious.

I call this storyline the most disappointing Dexter storyline yet. I think it was just a cheap and contrived trick by the writers. And I found myself a bit amused by it since just earlier in the same episode I had commented to myself that I was thinking they've been relying far too much on Dexter's conversations with his dad in the show recently; he's interacting too much with the imaginary character, leaving us to wonder how it could possibly be going on when Dexter's around others.

It has always gone on while others were around. I've always inferred that it is only a conversation going on in his head.

I agree that it was contrived, but since many of us predicted the "shocking reveal" before the end of the first episode, we've been watching and only have found a few questionable scenes where it is unclear how things work for Travis and imaginary Gellar. For the most part they have been doing a decent job.

Huh? That is what I just wrote must have happened, except that you changed killing to immobilizing (which takes longer than killing).

And it is completely ridiculous. That could never actually happen in a couple minutes.

It's possible to get electricity without paying for it.

It's also possible that the diocese never turned off the service.

Obviously, Travis prayed to God for electricity and He delivered. Sheesh. You people miss the obvious!
