When he was driving into the woods in Canada I couldn't help but think of the scene in an episode of the Sopranos when his character 'Christopher' and 'Paulie' get stranded when the Russian guy they were going to kill got away. They discovered their car was stolen and had to spend the night in woods in the freezing cold.
Detroit 187 "Blackout" 3/20/11 *spoilers*
Perfect ending for the season/series. They even poked fun at a widely criticized (in Detroit, at least) continuity error by pointing out that no one in Detroit calls pop soda.
The show has really grown on me. It started out being something I only watched because I'm from Detroit to a strong police procedural. And yet I'm torn about wanting this show to come back. On the one hand, I think if a show this good can't make it on network TV then we're doomed to more crap like Two and a Half Men and CSI: Waukegan.
On the other hand, I think that this show had a fairly decent season and I'm more on the side of ending a show earlier before it's jumped the shark. While 1 season clearly isn't enough, the fact that they addressed all the major storylines before the end of the season leaves me satisfied in the story.
Let's just hope it gets some love come Emmy season.

I love this show. Its a worthy replacement for Law and Order. Has it been canceled?
The show is so good... It is a shame it is likely going to go away.. Michael Imperoli is amazing but the whole cast and writing is so strong. Certainly my biggest surprise of the season.
What drives me nuts is apparently all network execs do is decide if a show gets a 2.0 or higher in the 18-49.. So what is their actual purpose.
To me the failure here is that ABC failed to develop an audience for this amazing show and thus the people responsible at ABC should be fired and replaced with those who can find an audience for this show.

It is most likely going to be canceled because all networks do these days is look to see if a show hits a very specific demographic number.. That is it. It is an absurd way to run a business like theirs...I love this show. Its a worthy replacement for Law and Order. Has it been canceled?

I was a little disappointed in the episode. The whole drive to Canada resolution lacked the finesse and cleverness that I've come to expect. I'm guessing there were last minute script changes when cancellation became apparent? Driving to another nation to commit the murder of a crime boss isn't much of a plan and would seem to me to have numerous long and short term complications. Everything was tied up neatly though, except the mystery of the captains missing hair.

Oh, that made perfect sense to me. Fitch could have killed him or arrested him during the "raid"; instead he walked him out the back and got him out of the country. Fitch even let Stram have a gun. What made less sense is that everybody else in the department was willing to go along with Fitch's murder plot...
I'm not sure any crime boss would ever get away with killing a cop and his family like Stram was said to have done to Fitch's partner in NYC. If something like that happened, the city would be turned upside down by local, State and federal police/agents. No one would deal with him, so his income would dry up. And either his rivals, or his underlings would serve him up to reduce the pressure on all of them.
Threatening Fitch's kid would be something that is believable as a motivation for Fitch to move to Detroit, but beyond that, no. If I am armed and someone like Stram threatens my family in front of me (which happened in this episode) either he or I would be dead by the end of the conversation. If unarmed, and I am a cop, I would send my kid into protection and half the police force would be after Stram, his goons and he would be made aware he and his loved ones would suffer horribly if he follows through on his threats.

Your rant about the network execs reminded me of one of the final lines on Sports Night - the guy buying the network said something to the effect of, "If someone can't make money on Sports Night they shouldn't be in the money making business." Shows like Hill Street Blues wouldn't survive in today's television world.
I'm wondering if there's any hope for Detroit 187 on one of the cable networks. It's apparent that the traditional networks are the landing spot for sitcoms and reality shows. The truly great dramas in today's world are almost exclusively the purview of networks like FX, AMC, HBO and Showtime (Starz is creeping up there with Spartacus).
