Folks,

I had shelved my Roamio for a year to venture into streaming, and Verizon made me a deal so I am back. I have the TE3 and lifetime Roamio (no streamer), but on occasion I would like to watch TV on my ipad or phone when I travel. With Hulu Live that was not a problem and it was really good.

Question: Is the streaming on Bolt/etc worth thinking of updating (knowing I must use TE4), and I have never seen in this thread if the Apple/Andriod apps are any good and watching TV on mobile devices is actually a pleasant experience.

I know with deals coming up I may consider. Thx.

BTW with the $60 Hulu price raise, Verizon 3 play was like +$20 to get entire cable bundle and landline, even w/ the $5 CC. I think these streaming companies have lot their brains.

Dropped all streaming options here, more for their politics than the cost, but when I had NFlix, Hulu and Amazon my Roamio did great as a streaming device. Still have it on cable and stream regularly from my Plex server with no issues. I'm as happy with TiVo in 2019 as I was in 2000 (except for the guide data). Rarely do you hear from Roamio users who are leaving TiVo because of usability issues. As long as my 6 tuners, 6tb drive and 3 minis work as they always have, somebody will have to pry them from me.

I have pretty good results streaming from my Bolt.. very little buffering... My Roamio with the add on streamer was not very reliable. I believe TiVo upgraded the hardware on the Bolts and it does make a difference.

You have very cheap cable TV due to competition. FiOS bundles aggressively. That same is not true for about 2/3 of the country that doesn't have fiber to their home, so streaming is a lot more competitive at the $50/mo price point of YouTube TV and other similar offerings from Hulu and others.

There's so much to watch these days, I'd probably just stream, but if you really want your local TV on the road, I'd get a used Slingbox with a used TiVo Mini (if others at home want to use the Roamio while you are streaming out of house), and do that.
