My S2ST 240 died tonight. I just checked and there is still some BestBuy warranty left. I don't know if the drive died or the PS went bad, but I'm not hearing the drive and the fan is running. Tho I've seen lots of PCs whose PS went marginal causing the drive to stop when the fan still ran. (I don't have a torx to look myself yet)

Anyway, I'm wondering what BestBuy's normal behavior is. Will they fix it or replace it? If they replace it I imagine that will be with a 540 rather than a 240. Didn't I read that the 540s aren't quite as good as the 240s? So am I better blowing off the warranty and fixing it myself? I have a lifetime sub and I don't want to mess with that...

Depends on the Best Buy store. Probably will just replace it with a 540 box. Call Tivo if the box is replaced under warranty - they may transfer the lifetime for you.

Sorry if that is bad form. I was trying to get some answers before I went out TODAY to deal with BestBuy. Can't go too long without TIVO, as I'm sure you know. :)

You'll notice that each thread attracted different users and got different answers as each question, although about the same event, was different.

If it's a problem feel free to close this thread.

This is exactly why having separate threads is not a good idea. The members responding in each thread don't see the other replies, thus any errors in an answer aren't caught. Also, as the original poster, you could lose track of one of them and then miss an answer.
