Damages, Any Good? Political?

I enjoyed the show when it was on regular TV, watched both seasons.

As far as political bias, not sure what you are asking about there. Why should any fiction be unbiased about anything? As far as Damages specifically, I can't think of anything in the show I would call a political bias, but if you're looking for/sensitive to political bias then I would say you'd have to see it for yourself.

Never seen a single episode. But I was watching the trailer for the new season with John Goodman in it and it appeared to be something war related with people picketing his house or something like that.

I was just trying to make sure it wasn't another annoying thing like "Green Zone".

Disclaimer: I didn't necessarily dislike Green Zone. I just thought it was made about 6-7 years after it should have been to be considered relevant. By the time it was made and released, it was ancient news.

Ahhhhhhh, ok that explains a little. Yeah the first 2 seasons don't have anything overtly political that I can think of, just a lot of back biting lawyers, and my whole experience with the show is seasons 1 and 2.

I watched the first two seasons. I really liked it at first but the constant plot twists and machinations got on my nerves by the time it went off of F/X or whatever channel it was on. Plus, Patty isn't a very likable character.

One problem I have with the show is that the first season had a unique and distinctive format. Which was great for the first season, but then they turned that unique and distinctive format into a formula. And in addition to losing the novelty of it, the content of subsequent seasons hasn't fit the formula as well as the first where the unique and distinctive format developed organically from the first season story.

Still watch it, but it grabs me less and less each year.

Conjure up some thoughts about Blackwater pro and con and you'll be close to the plot.

Exactly. I just watched the first episode, where they started with the guy chained up with the hood on, and then they jumped to a bridge I think, and instead of fast forwarding a bit, I waited for the "3 months earlier" chyron that I knew was going to come.

Every season didn't have to follow this back and forth that the first one did.

With the hype from DirecTV now offering season 4 on Audience I decided to start watching using Netflix. Am about halfway through S1. I also have a Series Link set for S4 which I may watch after I get through with Netflix.

Is there a reason that I shouldn't watch S4 without going through the other three?

S4 has a couple side plots that are sort of continuations of things that happened in earlier seasons. You would also find out the fate of some characters who met that fate in earlier seasons.

You probably can but I'd think a lot things would be confusing not having seen what's come before it. The case itself is new but the history between Patty and Ellen is very important (I think), and there are a lot of references to things and characters from prior seasons that you're not gonna get at all.

I like Damages so I would say watch it, especially since you can get pretty quickly through the three seasons> Season 2 is easily the weakest but I thought season 3 was great. Season four is pretty good so far.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately Netflix doesn't yet have season 3 for streaming. Probably because that season is going to be released on DVD in October.

I just couldnt get into this show. I watched the first three episodes of the first season when Directv was running it on the 101 channel. It felt like a chore to watch - I had a bunch saved on the DVR and just deleted them for space. I dont know what it was about the show it just never grabbed me (a lot of my friends recommended it to me as well).

I really liked season one, very, very much. Season two was okay, Three was back on track, pretty good but no season one.

The first three seasons were slightly political but not overbearingly so. Season four has been a disappointment for me. Not really any clever twists.. just misdirection: Wait, wait, wait, .. oh, never mind. And the politics has moved way to the forefront. And I don't mind nudity, I even like it! But it's out of place for the character the show as previously established.

I agree there, the 4th season is good, but it's almost a different show.

Remember the bearded assassin guy from seasons 1 & 2 (he recently was Gale on Breaking Bad)? Whenever we saw him, he did assassiny things and that was all. But this season, do we really need to see a similar character's personal life? It could come into play later, I suppose, but still, it's a different style.

So, I watched season 1 thru 3. The flash forwards confused this old mind at first, but I got the hang of it.
I'm now caught up with season 4. This is better in respect to the jumping around.
