It must've taken a considerable amount of self control for the rest of the team not to have resigned immediately when Strauss put herself on the plane with them.

The whole "with no chance for advancement" crap she spewed forth at the end would've still been more than enough for any reasonable person to have walked away from that job. What a way to run a department.

I'm glad they didn't suicide Gideon.

Ditto. Talk about misdirection. Much better way for Gideon to leave the show.

And a very clever misdirection, because the scenes from last week work well under either scenario.
Ditto on the un-suicide. I'm glad they made it part of the story in this episode as well, and didn't leave it hanging.

I really felt for Hotchner. He was getting it (in a bad way) from all sides.

I also enjoyed the unsub story... really creepy, the whole thing with using his son to pick up his victims and what he did with them. :shudder:

Yeah - that was very disturbing, especially at the end when he said he didn't even ask him for the last one...

Also pleased with the resolution for Gideon

I liked how they left it open for Gideon to come back...maybe after he takes off for a while Mandy Patinkin will come back...I really felt like he made the show.

What I didn't understand was the whole previews for this show and them talking about Mandy's last episode, but then it really wasn't. The previews (maybe I don't remember them that well) made it out like the whole episode was about him, but in reality, the show contained about 3 minutes of him at the end....
Yeah I think they managed this well. I think a lot of the Hotch stuff and whats her name was planned going into this season, but with Mandy leaving, I think they really went to the extreme of throwing everything upside down here. Played out nice as most of the pieces fell back in place, except for the big one.

Some people I know where really pissed at the allegation that Gideon would have killed themselves..so will be interesting to see how they responded to this.
This is such a great show!! I truly hope that the loss of Mandy Patinkin, or rather the addition of Joe Mantegna, will not have too great a change on the show as a whole.

Wow, this one really was a creepy one! That poor kid.

Interesting to see them really turn on the b!!ch bit with Strauss. I don't recall seeing her be that pointed or arrogant with the whole crew previously. Guess it's an important turn to ensure the loyalty to one another when the new agent arrives.

I'm shocked, shocked, to hear that a network promo was misleading.

The news reports on this said that the rest of the cast and crew didn't even want to work with him and they sent an alternate crew to wrap up his story. So regardless of what the network promos implied, I wasn't shocked at all with what they showed.
Joe Mantegna? Hmm, not so sure I like this casting.

I loved it when I heard they were considering Harvey Keitel but not so sure about Mantegna.

Yuck. Why did Mandy leave? Did he get another job? :(
He just didn't show up for work one day, and then told the producers he was done. I have loved him for 20 years now, but I was really disgusted by the way he chose to quit. Everyone has to make the best decision for them, and if he doesn't want to be on the show anymore, fine, but not the way he handled it.

ANYWAY, back to the show. I think Joe Montegna is a great choice. He has a very different energy from Mandy, and from everyone else on the show, he has enough seasoning to be believable as retired BAU, and enough polish to be believable as having been on the lecture circuit. I'm interested in how it'll play with the rest of the team.

I was one who was highly offended at the possible suicide of Gideon; I didn't think it fit his character at all, so I'm glad it went this way. Him going on a journey to recapture his enthusiasm and energy is MUCH more in keeping with how they've written his character over the years.

I'm glad the storyline of the Section Chief seems to be resolved. I wasn't a fan, and just found it annoying and distracting. I hate office intrigue just for the sake of office intrigue.

I didn't expect them to have Gideon commit suicide. It's completely out of character.

Oh, and does anyone else think that Hotch's wife is having an affair? Oh yeah.

Yep - and it seems like Hotch was thinking the same thing.
Really? I didn't get that impression at all; just that she got fed up and moved out with the kid(s).
Mandy Patinkin said he was offended by some of the violent scenes, and wants to go into comedy or musical comedy next.

David Caruso (NYPD Blues) and Brian Dunkleman (original co-host of American Idol) walked away from successful shows and it was the kiss of death on their careers. Caruso is finally back on CSI Miami, but Dunkleman's career is less than stellar. Of course, Mandy already has a solid career but I can't help but think this is going to hurt him with the big money players in the entertainment industry. He basically told "the man" to shove it. I'm sad he's off the show. He kind of made it for me but I think the other guy (Hotches character) is pretty good too. I'm guessing he will take over as lead from here on out. The rest of the cast is strong so hopefully the show will carry on.
I have no problem with his leaving the show, people do that all the time. But not showing up for work on the first day of the season is a good way to screw not only the Suits, but your co-workers and the audience. It's a pretty appalling lack of professionalism, and it seems to me that his undeniable and considerable talent does not excuse him.
