I have started to notice a crackling noise on the FOX network that is random when it shows up and then it can be intermittent. The first time I noticed it was last Tuesday on 2 recordings that I had. Then today during football I also noticed it. This happens only on the FOX network (which for me is the Orlando local FOX on directv).

I am almost positive it isn't receiver related because today since I caught it live I was able to go to a TV that had a standard directv receiver with a series2 TiVo and I heard it a bit on that as well. So, I was wondering if anyone here has any ideas on what might be causing this?

Mine has been doing the same thing also. Sometimes on Fox and sometimes on ABC. It is just like a burst of static and then it goes back to normal.

I have an audio problem on my HDVR2 DirecTIVO only during the show Bones. It only occurs when they are using the computer on the screen during the show. It sounds like there is a special sound effect that occurs on the show, but this effect just comes through as static/digital sounds distortion. It happens almost ever episode. I do not know if this is the same for you but it is really annoying. I started noticing it last year.

Happened to me tonight on my HDVR2 (instantcake) for 3 minutes of audio static during tonight's Build It Bigger and then on last week's recording of Private Practice, at the end. Glad it's not just happening to me.

I don't think it's just a Directv tivo problem as I been noticing the same issue on my Directv branded dvr.

I personally think that there's some effect of having this new HD Sattelite in the sky that's causing some interference with the older unit's that many of us have. Many channels are being simulcast now and I don't know if the new DTV10 is sending the old SD channels as well as the new HD channels with the same numbers. The occasional pixelation and now odd sound issues (during Build It Bigger the picture was perfect and closed captioning worked perfectly so I don't think it's the video stream that's being sent down.) make me think that something is going on and whatever it is, it's not on my boxes.

Guys (and anyone else with Orlando locals on Directv that has seen this), will you please call into Directv to report this problem. I know it is annoying to go through the menu and wait for someone but, until we get more people to report it we will never get it fixed. I called in last Sunday to report this and they escalated it and found nothing. I don't think they really put much effort into it. I have narrowed down the times I have seen this audio popping occur to Tuesday nights at 9pm during House, and during NFL games on Sunday. The video and audio are fine, there is just random loud audio pops that accompany the regular audio sometimes.

The Directv rep I talked to today said to get you guys to call in if you have sen this as well so they can get some more weight behing this issue. They initially wanted to charge me $70 to have someone come to me, but I think it is stupid to make me pay to have some come check my place out when the issue is obviouslly not here. So, I would really appreciate it if you would please call in on your own to report this as well so it gets the attention it needs. Thanks!

EDIT: Add the Simpsons to the shows with the pops showing up sometimes.

Yeah - I was just watching the Simpsons on WOFL and the crackeling reminded me of this thread. Yep - Football as well.

Isn't WOFL really the one to call? I think it's a problem with what gets SENT to DTV.

I think that is a good idea and couldn't hurt. However, DTV is who we have service with so we need to start there and let them work it down the chain. If they finally come to the conclusion it is WOFL then they can pressure them to fix it ASAP and have weight behind them. On the other hand it might be something DTV is doing with WOFL like balancing or boosting the audio or anything I have no idea about

I've been having this exact same issue on FOX for several years...and only on FOX. I first noticed it on 24 two seasons ago (only show on FOX I watch).
