Cox Phoenix updated my Cisco Tuning Adapters this morning from using Legacy OOB mode to the newer DSG (DOCSIS Set-top Gateway) mode.
Old Firmware was FLASH: STA1.0.0_1520_LR_F.2001
New Firmware is FLASH: STA1.0.0_1520_BDSG.LR_F.1601

It looks like it's one step forward, OOB to DSG, but 2 Firmware revisions backwards. Moving from F.2001 to F.1601

The Diagnostic Signal Levels for OOB (FDC & RDC) are now gone, so it looks like it will be harder to do diagnostics.

There is a new Page in the TA Diagnostics Menu: "DOCSIS Information" which has the Upstream and Downstream levels.

Not sure if there really is a different firmware version for this TA.

I recently had an issue where my TA lost sync about a week or so ago and no amount of rebooting would get it to sync. I had a tech our here the other day and he mentioned that there was a recent firmware update that for some reason many of TAs had issues fully installing it. It would appear to take take the update and you would get the solid green light indicating it sync'd with the head end but it just didn't work. In my case the status was constantly showing Ready - b'cast only and I could only tune a very small number of SDV channels. The tech claimed that they were supposed to get some new TAs in that had the firmware manually installed and should fix the issue.

Not sure if the new firmware he mentioned was the STA1.0.0_1520_BDSG.LR_F.1601 version, my previous TA took that update and worked mostly fine for about 2 months. The current one he gave me also shows this version but as stated doesn't really work and is stuck in the b'cast only mode.

Hopefully when the tech shows up with a new TA, I will verify the firmware versions and hopefully I will be able to tune in to the rest of the channels I pay for.

Sadly, Cox finally brought me a new tuning adapter with the new firmware forced installed and it still didn’t fix the issue. They gave me 3 different ones since mine died and they all synced but each of them show “Ready - B’cast Only” and SDV channels aren’t tuning. Same firmware version as above, but these past 3 tuning adapters won’t get to the Ready state.

Is anyone else with Cox and a Cisco TA having their TAs rebooting quite frequently, once or twice a week, on their own? (All 3 of my TAs reboot at the same time)
This happens mostly around 6pm or 10pm, sometime even during Primetime.

Seems to have begun a month ago. Whenever the tuner needs an SDV channel, the Cisco TA flashes a few times and my Roamio responds by cancelling all in progress recordings. I have been forcing a restart of the TA before any of the day's recordings and this seems to have made things better.

My TA? Reboots multiple times a day. I'm effing SICK of it. Watching a show, then "THERE IS NO TUNING ADAPTER CONNECTED" (which is bull****, THERE IS ONE CONNECTED!) About 2 minutes after that, I lose the program AGAIN and it says "TUNING ADAPTER CONNECTED". This happens MULTIPLE times a day. Cox and Tivo can't seem to figure out their OWN equipment.

I've just given up and don't care any longer. It is what it is.

Writing from a different Cox market - Las Vegas. One Bolt, Two Premieres, 3 cable cards, 3 Cisco TA's. Regularly getting NO TUNING ADAPTER messages for five months, followed by TUNING ADAPTER CONNECTED - not all three at the same time, sometimes two at the same time. Happens multiple times weekly. If a program is being recorded, it stops recording mid-program. Also numerous instances of TiVo history reporting "Did Not Record" - most common reason, "No Signal". Sometimes, "Not Authorized" - this on local NBC, ABC channels, as well as ESPN, MSNBC, CNN and Premium channels. At least 6-8 on site tech visits by Cox technicians - I now refuse to see contract techs who know nothing about Cable Cards, Tuning Adapters. Most recent tech onsite this past weekend (July 30) started by saying Cox no longer supports Tuning Adapters (only those "grandfathered" from prior use have them.) All failures documented by screen shots.

This week I sent a snail mail two page letter of complaint to the local technical manager, with cc's to the Cox president in Atlanta and, perhaps most importantly, to my local city franchising authority. [Last time -2010- I sent a letter of complaint to a government authority regarding TV issues, Mitsubishi had to replace my HDTV with a brand new model - if fact, they had to do ity twice.] Not holding my breath, but if I get any meaningful results, will come back and share.

Interim Las Vegas update ...

The snail mail letters did get some responses: two phone calls, one from a local Field Escalation Manager and a second call from individual who described herself as from the Cox Executive Offices (in Arizona). The former sent out a Field Escalation technician (who seemed to know something about TiVo boxes). He has come out twice and also involved an additional line technican team as some issues were apparently found on the line in my neighborhood. As of yesterday, all three of my Tivo boxes have new cable cards and Tuning Adapters, as well as new splitters and new coax from the wall outlets. As a test, they also installed a Cox owned Tivo Box and Tuning Adapter to see if it also fails should my existing boxes continue to have the same issues during the test period. One of my boxes today did not record a program with history stating "Not Authorized" on a channel it had recorded earlier in the day. The Cox Tivo box will be left on site for five days. The Field Escalation tech is scheduled to return next Monday.
