I have 2 Tivo boxes, both have required tuning adapters for SDV
This morning all SDV content was unwatchable
I rebooted the adapters and boxes and also checked signal strength which was good
Still not working
So I bypassed the tuning adapters and all worked
I am assuming Cox no longer needs the adapters here?

The tuning adapter is only needed for channels that are on SDV. If you don't watch those channels then you don't need it.

Hmmmm. I still see SDV channels with the tuning adapter attached and working. ‍

I guess Cox was changing something for a couple days in my case
Now I need the tuning adapter again for SDV

This usually means someone else on your node has already "requested" the channel (the task that the TA handles for the TiVo).
