I admit I have been out of the loop for a while on the Tivo scene. I purchased the exact model machine that I had, I swapped the drives to test the old unit....but It still can't move past the powering up screen.

Anyway...at one time Instantcake was well worth the value for $20 to not have to deal with it. Now at $39...no!! I am not paying that....especially when I just purchased this machine for $80 with lifetime and a working image on the drive.

That being said I need to upgrade this 60 gig drive to something bigger. I have not done this in 4 years so could someone point me in the best way to do this with current upgrade methods? I know in the past you had to make an image.....etc etc. Are there better ways to do this now?

I appreciate any help....thank you.

If you have a working image on your drive, MFSLive or WinMFS will let you back it up and restore to a bigger drive.
Thank you, I will give that a try. I knew software must have improved since the last time I did this through linix with about 20 commands.....

Any one in particular easier to use?
I've used WINMFS to reimage several drives for my Series 1 units. It also lets me use an IDE to USB cable (I don't have a computer with an IDE bus, so can't install the drive internally).

The MFS Live cd v1.4 will boot you into a version of Linux but you'll be able to manage with lot fewer than 20 commands.
