What is the best current way to convert a tivo file (that is, a video file uploaded from my tivo to my computer) to a format that can be written to and viewed on a DVD?

The best? IMO, it's VideoReDo TV Suite. Version 3 is all you would need to make DVDs.

Well worth the investment if you plan to make a lot of DVDs.
Thanks, but the software you mention, which costs $75, doesn't work with Tivo files. It works with MPEG files.
It works with .tivo files as long as Tivo Desktop is installed on that PC.
An alternative is to use TivoDecode (or kmttg) to decrypt to .mpg.

As posted above, VideoReDo works directly with .tivo files as long as you have Tivo Desktop installed on the same computer.

AFAIK, there is no other DVD making software that works directly with .tivo files. You will have to convert the .tivo file to MPEG first with anything else you use.
THAT is just one of the reasons why VideoReDo is so highly recommended.
Thanks to both of you. I got it working.

It is interesting that when Steve614, who knows precisely of what he speaks, informs you how it can be done, your response is to pontificate with a completely incorrect reply. VRD works with a wide array of video formats, including MPEG2, MPEG4, H.264, DivX, and quite a few others including, yes, TiVo. There are other options for converting from .TiVo to .mpg, and indeed I use one of them (tivodecode) prior to processing in VRD.
