Sorry if this is a bit of a noobie question but I just got tivo service and have found that the tech support is almost completely useless. in that it often gives completely the wrong answer. It seems to have pre-determined questions that lead users asking questions on total wild goose chases. To date, they have insisted on re-registering me quite a few times and sending me lotsa new remotes.

This seems to be because their agents ask questions but are reluctant to listen for the answers??

i have a TiVo AG0100 but it doesnt resemble any i have found on the documentation page; there are no icon lights, they being replaced with a curved (green?) bar where they should be.

does this TiVo AG0100 work without a power supply please? in addition, can I insert a network password on it please?

The documentation seems to state that it ONLY works with a power supply, which for a network adapter sounds wrong. Also that network passwords are inserted only through the web interface on a computer (and thereafter are somehow stored on the adapter permanently?)

thank you for your reply but this is now even more baffling! I bought it as an N but it has a standard (1394?) USB plug. Is the one with the curved bar instead of the icons somehow unusual? When plugged in, the premiere does detect the adapter and scan/see networks and allow me to choose networks and try to log onto the network. but it then tries to log onto it without a password, doesnt identify any problem and spins off ad infinitum without giving me any errors! The Tivo bloke said that it will ask for the password later on????

AG0100. The G is the 802.11G method used. AN0100. The N is the 802.11N used. They look the same closed with a slight difference in color. I don't have (can't find) the adapter. I did have one and all I did was follow the directions. That was years ago. Sorry.

Is the network itself password protected or the network style that prompts for username/password? If the latter I do not know if TiVO can connect to that style network. I have one and it does prompt for password after selecting the network name.

It might be that the device stores the password and is trying to use the prior owners password? But if you just followed directions and it worked, that must be the important bit and I SHOULD be able to get it to work.

Amazing that tivo doesnt have a standard set-answer for how to change a network password on their own device?

The wireless N does not let you change anything. You perform a hard reset then configure. No do-overs. I forget if the G is the same.
