Conan O'Brien to end talk-show hosting run after 28 years

The longest-serving late-night host is leaving late night.

"Conan," the TBS show hosted by Conan O'Brien, will go off the air in June, and the host will move on to HBO Max, where he plans to have his own weekly variety series, Warner Media announced on Tuesday.

The primary reason I got a TiVo in 2001 was that I was finally sick and tired of having to set the VCR to record "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" every night (and make sure the cable box was on the correct channel before I went to bed). End of an era!

I remember pre-TiVo doing the VCR thing with that ‘other’ Late Night with...” guy :)
Geez, 28 Yrs ?! And I still think of him as young ... I feel so old. I haven’t wanted to watch late night since Carson, and I remember when he first started. I **am** old!
I never cared for him. He seemed a little creepy to me back when I tried watching him.

I thought it was just me. Several (or so) years ago I would try to watch sometimes, if he was having a guest I wanted to see, and he just did some things that skeeved me out. Definitely creepy.
I saw him live a couple of years ago. Best live comedy act I've ever seen. He was amazing - and really knew how to work the crowd.
I saw his "Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour", and his "Standup Tour" - Both excellent (for me to poop on!).
Andy tweeted this photo, showing that the "Conan" set is no longer standing, and I've seen some of the writers tweet that they've been cleaning out their offices on the WB lot. I assume this means they're expecting to do the rest of the run of "Conan" from the Coronet Theater, and eventually find new studio and office space for the variety show.

is the new show really only going to be HBO max and not on TV HBO too? so I can more easily FF through any boring bits.. (though being hbo, won't be able to download segments from TiVo)
Initial press release says HBO Max, so looks like it’s not going to be on HBO
I think he's still got a shot at the Tonight Show gig.
I hear Jay Leno is interested in the Tonight Show gig ;)

I really like Conan's podcast, but I've really never watched his talk show. I've enjoyed clips from his show, but I doubt I ever watched an entire show.

I've never really watched any late night show. I used to be a big Howard Stern fan. Stuttering John left that show to become Jay Leno's announcer. I remember thinking many times I had to check out Leno, just to see John. I didn't watch it one time.
I enjoyed Conan on NBC, but his show lost a little on TBS, then lost a ton when it went down to the half hour format.

The pandemic shows were just a sad epilogue, both the home shows and then the shows with no audience from a historic but (sorry) rather ratty looking theater they are in now.
