I bought the retail tivo and got a cable card from comcast. There was no charge for the first cable card and I wanted to make sure I could still get netflix something I'm sure they disable. I believe comcast charges the same fee for tivo as their own box. I've get the retail one over a cable branded tivo.
Comcast + TIVO

I am looking into getting TIVO with my comcast (in Panama City FL). I got a rental DVR (Scientific Antlanta or something) that I really cant stand. I tried to set up 2 scheduled recordings and got a conflict. I contacted comcast and they said it wouldnt do 2 scheduled recordings (though it would according to them record 2 different channels at the same time). Between that and an AD on every page of the guide that you have to tab through when you are browsing is just too much for rented equipment.
Anyway i was told (by comcast rep) that if i got a TIVO box there is no subscription service cost from TIVO as comcast has TIVO in my area. Does that make sense? It doesn't really sound right to me, has anyone else experienced this?

I'd call back and talk to a different rep. In Chicagoland you pay both Tivo and Comcast. I can't believe it would be any different in Florida.
You can pay lifetime subscription for a Tivo (that sticks with the hardware).
Sounds to me like she doesn't know what she is talking about. Tivo is only available from Comcast in the Boston area. It has been that way for about three years now.Good Afternoon,

Perhaps the CSR has been confused by the recent availability of the Tivo Premiere from Comcast in the New England area. Comcast apparently now gives you a choice between the Tivo software downloaded to a Comcast DVR in New England and now a Tivo Premiere provided by Comcast in New England.Sounds to me like she doesn't know what she is talking about. Comcast apparently now gives you a choice between the Tivo software downloaded to a Comcast DVR in New England and now a Tivo Premiere provided by Comcast in New England.

This is a TiVo web site so TiVo is pointing out that New England customer's actually have a choice to purchase a retail Premiere or still use the actual Comcast Moto DVR running TiVo software.Yes but the Premiere is currently being provided by Comcast according to the announcement. Comcast VOD will not be available to New England Premiere customer's until they complete the integration. As I stated earlier San Fran is first on the list as the pilot roll-out location for the VOD-integrated offering.Update: Comcast tells Light Reading Cable that it expects to launch the retail effort in the first markets "later this year."
